As I write this blog, the ACP program that provides a discount for millions of homes will disappear unless Congress takes action to continue it. By now, most big ISPs have announced how they will handle broadband for low-income homes after the end of ACP. Altice Optimum provides the Optimum Advantage Internet plan that provides…

Unending Broadband Growth | by Doug Dawson | POTs & PANs | Surfing the Broadband Bit Stream | Scoop.it
I wrote a recent sequence of blogs that look at the increasing demand for broadband usage. In today’s blog I’m going to look at some concrete examples of situations where broadband demand has expanded a lot faster than expected. The first example is in schools. Ten years ago, there was a scramble to get gigabit…

Does Apple Intelligence Protect Your Privacy? | by Neil J. Rubenking | PCMag.com

When you ask Siri a question, you really want to hear the computer from Star Trek or at least something that sounds smart and responsive. What you get is often a disappointing quote or a "Here's what I found" with a tepid list of links. In a keynote at its developer-focused WWDC, Apple laid out its plans to give you a true Apple Intelligence experience.

Apple Intelligence will come as part of Apple’s operating systems, so in effect you’re getting it for free. And you know what they say—if the service is free, you are the product. Is Apple Intelligence “creepy spyware,” as Elon Musk declares? Or can Apple make good on its promise to serve up AI-based information without damaging your privacy?

NTCA Urges Enhancements to FCC Mapping, Broadband Data Collection Processes | NTCA.org

(May 30) In a meeting with staff to FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel, NTCA highlighted several issues for the commission to consider as part of its mapping and Broadband Data Collection (BDC) updates. Those recommendations included: (i) strengthen reporting verification efforts; (ii) enable greater use of performance and subscription data to inform challenges and otherwise to update several BDC challenge codes; (iii) close loopholes that allow providers to avoid submitting data to back up coverage claims; (iv) update procedures to overcome successful or conceded challenges through reasserted claims of availability; (v) consider changes to reporting standards to reflect proven technological capabilities on an objective engineering basis in lieu of accepting advertising claims; and (vi) review the use of BDC data in making better-informed decisions that affect broadband funding and policy.

It’s Trump’s ‘technopoly’ now | by Derek Robertson with help from Mohar Chatterjee | Digital Future Daily | POLITICO.com

Former President Donald Trump recently gave his most extensive public comments to date on artificial intelligence not to a major national newspaper, or even a friendly right-wing outlet, but… Logan Paul, the infamous social media influencer turned professional wrestler turned hit podcaster.

“It is a superpower, and you want to be right at the beginning of it, but it is very disconcerting,” Trump said to Paul, before recounting that he struggled to discern whether a deepfaked commercial of himself was real. Trump also mentions receiving $12 million for his campaign from unnamed Bay Area “super-geniuses,” a subtle marker of his emergence as the standard-bearer of the right-leaning, crypto-loving wing of Silicon Valley.
