Christopher Coleman's insight:

Great interview where composer Joseph Trapanese opens up about coming to work on The Raid 2, how he views Tron: Legacy in the context of his career, and staying involved in the music industry in multiple ways.

Sibelius Blog | Joseph Trapanese scores “Oblivion” in Sibelius

Sibelius Blog | Joseph Trapanese scores “Oblivion” in Sibelius | Soundtrack | Scoop.it

Today, film audiences will be treated to the latest blockbuster Tom Cruise film. Oblivion, released by Universal Pictures and written, produced and directed by Joseph Kosinski, is a post-apocalyptic story in which Cruise battles to save a ravaged planet Earth and all of mankind.

Hardly small stuff—an epic tale requiring an epic score. The powerful music heard in the film is a collaboration between American composer Joseph Trapanese and French musician Anthony Gonzalez, along with Gonzalez’s band M83. The result is a fusion of electronic sounds and full orchestra. I recently caught up with Joe and veteran music preparer Booker White to learn more about what went into making the score.

Maybe it's because the weather is getting warmer or perhaps it seems like summer is just around the corner, but next week's "Oblivion" seems to be either a kickstart to the summer movie season or a big finale to the spring slate.

M83's Anthony Gonzalez Shares Film Score Track From OBLIVION | Self-Titled Mag

M83's Anthony Gonzalez Shares Film Score Track From OBLIVION | Self-Titled Mag | Soundtrack | Scoop.it
Here's a streaming track from Anthony Gonzalez's score for the Tom Cruise film 'Oblivion'...

As revealed by Rolling Stone this morning, M83 frontman Anthony Gonzalez has shared the first track from his score for the Joseph Kosinski film Oblivion. That’d be the Tom Cruise vehicle directed by the same CGI auteur who directed Tron: Legacy and the only video game commercial that almost—almost!—made us cry.

The Elder Scrolls: Headed to a symphony hall near you? - Destructoid

The Elder Scrolls: Headed to a symphony hall near you? - Destructoid | Soundtrack | Scoop.it

With all the videogame music concerts going around these days, have you ever thought about an entire concert dedicated to The Elder Scrolls? Well, composer Jeremy Soule has that very dream, and has begun a social media campaign to make it happen. He’s proposing a concert in New York featuring a “world-renowned orchestra,” but he’s looking for the support of his fans.

Alberto David Salinas Rivas's curator insight, October 11, 2013 6:03 PM

I think bringing videogame music to a live performace is a good idea to show the audiences how this media can also have elaborate pieces of music.

Pros: more people can listen to music and also bring audiences to like the videogame as well.

Cons: looking for fan support is not enough, Jeremy Soule should also bring more listeners, not only Skyrim fans.

The Hangout comes two weeks before Trapanese’s scheduled appearance at the 8th annual ASCAP “I Create Music” EXPO. Select questions tweeted to @ASCAP using the hashtag #AskOblivion will be addressed by Hangout participants.

Due to time constraints, Trapanese was only able to address a small portion of the #AskOblivion questions that came in through Twitter. After the Hangout, Trapanese graciously answered these additional questions and sent them to us via email. These questions and answers can be found below.

Whoa - M83 is Scoring Tom Cruise / Joe Kosinski's Sci-Fi 'Oblivion'

Whoa - M83 is Scoring Tom Cruise / Joe Kosinski's Sci-Fi 'Oblivion' | Soundtrack | Scoop.it

This is awesome. It was Joe Kosinski who took a risk getting Daft Punk to score Tron Legacy, but the results were superb, a great score that I still find myself listening to today. Now he's mixing it up again with his next sci-fi feature, Oblivion, due out early next year starring Tom Cruise as "one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth." Thanks to an news on The Playlist, Kosinski has secured French electronic band M83 to score the movie, with frontman Anthony Gonzalez leading the way. As a fan of M83 myself, this is great to hear, especially knowing their sound and how it will play into the world Kosinski has created.
