Livestream! Celebrating The Online Film Music Critic 25 Years Later | 1:00 PM ET, Sunday, Oct. 3, 2021

25 years ago, when the internet was in its infancy, a handful of film music review websites were established, pioneering online film music criticism with a new generation of writers and broadcasters who were taking advantage of this new medium for the first time.

Now, a quarter of a century later, the International Film Music Critics Association is delighted to announce a special event celebrating the dedication and longevity of five of these critics, with an anniversary round table looking back at the history of online film music criticism.

Moderated by IFMCA member Tim Burden, the event will feature a live and interactive conversation between five of these forerunners: Jonathan Broxton of Movie Music UK, Christian Clemmensen of Filmtracks, Christopher Coleman of Tracksounds, James Southall of Movie Wave, and Erik Woods of Cinematic Sound Radio.

Join us on Sunday October 3rd 2021 at 1:00pm EST (10:00am PST, 6:00pm BST) via the live stream on the IFMCA Youtube Channel at https://www.youtube.com/c/InternationalFilmMusicCriticsAssociation, where you can watch the celebration, post questions to the panel, and more!

Cinematic Sound Radio Latest Episode: "Hero Kids"

Cinematic Sound Radio Latest Episode: "Hero Kids" | Soundtrack | Scoop.it

Two years ago, J.J. Abrams’ film SUPER 8 and an article entitled “The 6 Most Badass Hero Kids In Movies” inspired me to write a three hour radio program dedicated to the HERO KIDS film. Unfortunately, the script was never recorded and a program was never produced.  Why? I don’t know, these things just happen.

Fast forward to present day and in need of a show to produce, I went back into the archives and found this much neglected script dedicated to one of my favourite sub-genre of film.

So what is a HERO KIDS film?  Ryan McKee’s article defines the HERO KIDS film as a movie where “children regularly saved adults from bad situations.”  You can extend that to ordinary kids going on extraordinary adventures.  McKee’s list doesn’t include films about teenagers, however, our “list” does since teenagers are still essentially kids… just a bit taller.

On the program today you will hear music from such HERO KIDS films as EXPLORERS, THE GOONIES, FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR, E.T. THE EXTRA TERRESTRIAL, ZATHURA, THE MONSTER SQUAD, THE LAST STARFIGHTER and many more.

Soundcast - Episode 60 - 2013 Year in Preview (Feature Film) | Soundtrack | Scoop.it

Erik Woods (Cinematic Sound Radio) joins Christopher, Marius, Richard and Edmund for our final edition of the 2013 Year in Preview series. For this final installment, they tackle the rest of 2013's announced feature films and their respective scores. The fellows sidetrack on to Hans Zimmer versus Trevor Morris' use of synths and symphonic orchestra, just how good/bad Ramin Djawadi's score for Iron Man is and Romeo "Versus" Juliet?

THE FLAGSHIP SHOW: JAMES HORNER - END CREDIT SUITES | Cinematic Sound Radio

THE FLAGSHIP SHOW: JAMES HORNER - END CREDIT SUITES | Cinematic Sound Radio | Soundtrack | Scoop.it
In today’s program, we’ll be paying tribute once again to two-time Academy Award-winning composer James Horner. It has been five years since his tragic death and CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO once again is paying tribute to the composer by playing more of his music. Back in the 1970s, James Horner dreamt of a career as a concert composer, but it was film scoring that was to be his true calling, and it would take him 30 years to finally return to the concert hall with Pas De Deux. One can argue that Horner was always writing concert works as he broke convention by producing extended cues that retained the long-form structures observed in classical music. End Credits similarly offered Horner the opportunity to write pure music which could be enjoyed without visuals; stand-alone compositions that developed the thematic and motivic material introduced in the score, but free of any narrative, dramatic tone or tempo obligations from their cinematic counterpart. On today’s program we will be playing end credit cues composed by James Horner from such films as A BEAUTIFUL MIND, CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER, GLORY, WHERE THE RIVER RUNS BLACK, RANSOM, ONCE UPON A FOREST, LIVING IN THE AGE OF AIRPLANES and many more. Thanks for tuning in! And as always, we would love to read your feedback and get your suggestions on how we can make this particular show better. We also encourage requests for this show.
