"We were recently alerted to an iOS app called Sun Scout, which superimposes a graphical representation of the sun's future position on a scene captured by your iPhone's camera.

If, for example, you are scouting a shooting location, Sun Scout will plot and superimpose the sun's path, for a date and range of times that you specify, on the image of the scene as captured by your camera and displayed on your iPhone's screen.

Sun Scout uses the iPhone's compass and, presumably, its GPS functions to accomplish this, and its accuracy is dependent on the compass's accuracy, which is variable depending on environmental conditions.

The app's iTunes Preview includes several screen shots that illustrate how it works.

Sun Scout cost US$9.99 and is available from the iTunes App Store.
