Making an Environment Concept from a 3D Base

Making an Environment Concept from a 3D Base | SketchUp | Scoop.it
If you prefer the freedom of painting your lighting in Photoshop, this tutorial teaches you a fast way to set up masks in Photoshop from renders with red, green, blue and black, without the slow tedious work of tracing them by eye with the Paint Brush or Lasso tool. The masks used in this tutorial are two different renders using the Red, Green and Blue channel. One render separates the faces facing different directions, the other separates different objects.
Samuli Lautjarvi is a 24-year-old digital painter from Finland. He has been working in a mobile game company for half a year and doing minor freelance gigs (CD covers and game graphics). His biggest enthusiasm is painting environment concepts, for some of which he uses Sketchup models as a basis.

For 3D modeling and rendering, I used SketchUp and Kerkythea (both free) and then Photoshop for the 2D part of the process. I won’t go into detail about how to model in Sketchup, if you’re new to the program, there are many good tutorials here to get you started. I have also included the model with Scenes for download here if you want to just practice the rendering and Photoshop work.

SketchUp to Photoshop – no render engine required

SketchUp to Photoshop – no render engine required | SketchUp | Scoop.it

As the title implies, this architecture illustration tutorial doesn’t use a rendering engine. I have done a few other tutorials in the past that don’t involve a rendering program, however this tutorial does things a little differently, and in less time.

The Making of 412 Broadway :: Google SketchUp 3D Rendering Tutorials SketchUpArtists | SketchUp | Scoop.it

A very detailed article by Scott Baumberger in which he explains his workflow and technique in producing a really professional architectural vizualization. You will learn a lot from this latest ‘Making of’, including some nice little tricks to get some really excellent results. Most of the work is done in Photoshop and the model was provided by the client, so it was a fairly quick process. Scott says the SketchUp exporting and Shaderlight renders took only a few minutes and the whole process took about three days, which included waiting for client feedback. There is lots to see and learn here…so get reading and enjoy!
