Der Internet Explorer 11 unter Windows 7 und 8.1 hat eine Sicherheitslücke die Cross-Site Scripting erlaubt. Dies soll unter anderem ermöglichen, die Sicherheitsfunktionen des Browsers zu umgehen.
Im Internet Explorer gibt es eine größere ungepatchte Schwachstelle, die Angreifern erlaubt, beliebigen Schadcode aus einer (nicht vertrauenswürdigen) externen Domäne auf einer Webseite einer anderen (vertrauenswürdigen) Domäne auszuführen. Betroffen sind mindestens Windows 7 und 8.1 mit dem Internet Explorer 11.

Die Schadsoftware wird über eine prominente Webseite verteilt und nutzt eine Sicherheitslücke im Internet Explorer.

Update: In an advisory published a couple of hours after this article went live, Microsoft confirmed a code-execution vulnerability in IE8. Versions 6, 7, 9, and 10 of the browser are immune to the exploit. People using IE8 should upgrade to versions 9 or 10, if possible.

News that an Internet Explorer zero-day vulnerability was being and has been for quite some time been used in a new "watering hole" attack has livened the otherwise uneventful last week of 2012.

 

The exploited website was that of the Council on Foreign Relations, an organization, publisher, and think tank specializing in U.S. foreign policy and international affairs, among whose members are a number of high-profile U.S. government and political figures such as former secretary of state Madeleine Albright, former treasury secretary Robert Rubin, and many others.
