At Cottrell & Vermeulen Architecture we are concerned that as we embark on major building programmes to refurbish primary schools, not enough has been done to test and confirm the best methods and approaches by which to proceed.

This is architecture that originates from the system of Cidori, an old Japanese toy. Cidori is an assembly of wood sticks with joints having unique shape, which can be extended merely by twisting the sticks, without any nails or metal fittings. The tradition of this toy has been passed on in Hida Takayama, a small town in a mountain, where many skilled craftsmen still exist.

The work of an architect requires creativity of extreme levels. However, creativity is not the only thing required for becoming an architect. Proper education and a certain level of experience is required if you want to become and architect. Many people give examples of great architecture being built without any accredited degree. They point towards the wonders of the world to establish their claims. You need to remember that the times have changed. And even in the older days not everyone could be an architect.

Lambert's study explores the power of architecture as a political weapon through history, from the wide 'boulevards' designed by Haussmann to allow for an easy movement of the artillery and cavalry in Paris to the mobile fences deployed by police forces during the G8 in Genoa to control mass demonstrations.

The family yearned to live full time at their summer camp next to the Bear Run mountain stream, and turned to Wright to help them design a more suitable vacation home than their current, deteriorating cabin.

Parque Humano have completed the Casa Cardenas in Valle de Bravo, Mexico. For the concept of this project we have taken advantage of the triangular character of the plot, the slope of the land and the views towards the Cerro Gordo´s Natural Reserve. The building has been conceived as a homogenous mass, hollowing out a huge opening with an inviting forced perspective effect caused by the asymmetric walls that frames the natural panorama.
