Learn how to use LinkedIn Showcase Pages to generate leads.
Having more than one buyer persona is a balancing act. If they're very different, you may feel like you're constantly in danger of not giving one enough attention, or confusing your personas with untargeted content. Add the problem of keeping all your content grouped together on one social media page, and you're really lost.
Some brands have found a way to fix this issue on LinkedIn, specifically, by creating something called Showcase Pages. Let's take Gap as an example -- they've got a page for Old Navy, Banana Republic, Gap, and Gap Inc. But those pages aren't all connected or centralized around Gap Inc. Showcase Pages, however, fix this problem....

...With more than 277 million users in over 200 countries and territories so far, LinkedIn is a true social networking juggernaut. Who wouldn’t like more LinkedIn profile page views? Thanks to the newly updated “Who’s Viewed Your Profile” section, users can now take advantage of personalized tips aimed at boosting page views. One of the main features that has distinguished LinkedIn from the other major social media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter, has been the ability to see who has viewed your profile. Now, by tapping into the power of big data, LinkedIn’s new layout for “Who’s Viewed Your Profile” includes impressive analytics and real-time “actionable insights” meant to increase profile visibility and enhance one’s professional brand. Before, users could only see how often their profile was viewed and a list of the most recent users to check out their page. Now, LinkedIn breaks down the data even further, showing the industry viewers work in, the keyword searches that brought them to a profile, how they found a specific user, what regions they live in, what profession they are in and what companies they work for...

Take a look at LinkedIn today, and it’ll bear little resemblance to the LinkedIn of just a few years ago.The design is slick. The mobile apps are polished. And the site has begun to look like a full-fledged consumer social network, replete with content that you actually might want to read.
In that vein comes the next phase of LinkedIn’s evolution: Personal publishing. On Wednesday, the company announced that everyone can now publish personal, long-form content to their LinkedIn profile pages, providing the site’s 277 million-plus users with their own professional blogging platform....

Unless you enforce a strict selectivity policy, there's a good chance your LinkedIn network has some significant percentage of complete strangers who may never be able to help you professionally--or who may, and you'd never know it.
New mobile app Broadli aims to rein in the perpetual disorganization of professional social networks, helping people find those connections, or connections of connections, who can help them most, and vice versa.
Created by New Zealand-born entrepreneur Claudia Batten and Alessandra Lariu, cofounder of global women's digital marketing network SheSays and one of Fast Company's Most Creative People 2010, Broadli is an attempt, says Batten, to "digitize serendipity"--that is, use networks better to increase the chances of connecting with the right person at the right time....

Why? Everyone else is using them too. Check out LinkedIn's 2013 Most Overused Buzzwords list....
Read the word "extensive" and you don't immediately think, "Great, a comprehensive suite of services covering a broad range of applications!" Instead you skim right over the word because you've seen it thousands of times in the same context. In a business setting, "extensive" is filler. Here are more examples: the 10 most overused words and phrases from LinkedIn profiles in 2013 (along with my thoughts on each). Take a look and then think about removing over-used words and phrases from your website, press releases, and other company communications

LinkedIn isn't only good for hiring employees. Here's how you can use the social network to connect with customers, identify new leads and more.
While LinkedIn is often used by job-seekers or employers looking to fill open spots, hiring isn’t LinkedIn’s only function.
The social network, which reports more than 259 million members in more than 200 countries, also provides a great opportunity to connect with customers and identify new leads, says DJ Muller, president of WebLink International.
“What LinkedIn is, is an awesome tool that is underleveraged by businesses in general. It’s a great tool to build more relationships with existing customers and it’s an awesome tool to use your customers to connect with prospects,” says Muller. LinkedIn research suggests that members are nearly 50% more likely to purchase from a company they’ve interacted with on LinkedIn, and 80% say they want to connect with companies on the platform. Here are Muller’s five tips to make the most of your time...

There are more how-to articles about creating LinkedIn profiles than there were stars at the Academy Awards. But with all due respect, most are worth less than a DVD of Lindsay Lohan's best performances. That’s because almost every tip I’ve read suggests you should create an LI profile that reads more like an unemployed used car salesman’s resume.
Success on LinkedIn depends upon your ability to craft compelling stories that engage your audience. The site has successfully transformed itself from an online recruiting platform to a robust business-to-business social media community; as such, you should contribute in ways that add value to the community.
With that in mind, I asked for some quick storytelling tips from Sam Ford, Peppercomm's director of audience engagement, the coauthor of Spreadable Media, and a frequent speaker at publishing and social media events such as South By Southwest and MIT's Media in Transition conference...

The business-focused social network opens its publishing platform to its members, raising lots of questions.
Ryan Roslansky, head of content products for the company, strenuously rejects LinkedIn's media ambitions. Or at least he refuses to address them head on. "We are not approaching this from a publishing or media-company perspective," he told me last week.
The "this" in question is LinkedIn's announcement that it is opening its "publishing platform" to all its 277 million members, beginning with a test group of 25,000. The move essentially means providing a juiced-up blogging tool to LinkedIn users, but with a twist. Blogging sites like Tumblr (owned by Yahoo) or even Medium, the new site run by Twitter (and Blogger) founder Evan Williams, are relative free-for-alls. Post your blog, tell other people about it using social media, and hope someone will see it.
A post on LinkedIn is targeted at the people already in your professional network. "Your LinkedIn identity is your professional profile of record," Roslansky says. Adding the ability to post long-form professional information, he says, "helps to ensure someone can stand out and look better in their career."...

LinkedIn has published a new study called Priming the Economic Engine that shines some light on SMB usage of social media. Its findings present an optimistic outlook for 2014, with a renewed focus on marketing. And while that’s great, there were three additional key discoveries LinkedIn found about social media adoption:
1. While social media is used for marketing, SMBs are also learning from it. 2. Social media helps companies find new customers, especially the hyper growth SMBs. 3. There’s an opportunity for financial companies to connect with SMBs on social media and they’re mostly receptive on LinkedIn....

LinkedIn offers six mobile apps that enable us to use its content channel for productive networking and to influence decisions makers.
If you’re one of those who signs into your LinkedIn account less than once a week, this article just may open your eyes to how you can use LinkedIn everyday. Let’s set the stage for the case for integrating LinkedIn into your daily work life.
First, understand that LinkedIn recognizes that busy professionals need a reason to use LinkedIn everyday, other than searching for a job. LinkedIn is a mature social network and a viable business, reflected by their stock price growth.Content ChannelLinkedIn has evolved into a top tier content channel and the reason is obvious. You’re a busy professional. You run from meeting to meeting or conference call to conference call. The limited time you spend at your desk is dominated by email and/or another business critical application used to manage your primary responsibility such as a CRM, or an operations-centric application.
