My husband an I had the opportunity to attend a movie “The Psychology of Retirement” and it’s true, so many of us are not prepared for the years of life after we retire. I have asked Kevin McEnerney, who provided us the invite to the movie, to be my guest on the Boomer Bytes Podcast. Families have changed dramatically over the last 100 years. In the past, families relied on each other and everyone had roles to work together to survive. Now, families are more independent as technology allows people to stay connected from a distance. My mom is 90 and lives on her own, but she’s only 10 minutes away from me and my husband. We do family dinner nearly every Sunday and play cards with my mom. My eldest son who lives 45 minutes away, joins us when he can. Jobs are typically the reason that family members move away. My youngest son did his post doc in Colorado and then found an excellent job afterwards. My mom had friends that retired to Florida who felt it became too difficult to live alone and moved to be nearby family or with family. I believe providing affordable transportation to social activities and events would help Seniors tremendously. My mom plays cards with a group in her neighborhood and another at her church. I wonder how many elderly people would enjoy going to church, but are not secure with driving anymore.

This shaky economy makes Baby Boomers fearful of selling. They want financial security and are fearful of high interest rates, sky high insurance and escalating HOA fees.

My prediction, the housing market will continue to do a down turn and become a true buyers market. Real estate is ever changing and no market lasts forever!

Take a peak at this post directed to Realtors about the next chapter for Baby Boomers. Makes me glad I quit the board of Realtors and I am no longer affiliated with the National Association of Realtors.

This ProAge Baby Boomer thinks there’s no way in hell that boomers want to move because of economics. Along with inflated interest rates that continue to rise, their tax base will also change. It’s not financially prudent to move to a fancy schmancy golf community with HOA fees that suck the life out of you.

Boomers want to travel and enjoy life. They prefer a house a bit too big than taking the risk of financial drain.

Oh and yes, let’s not forget about capital gains. Uncle Sam’s cut makes moving even more unappealing. If you’re a baby boomer, chime in and let me know what you think. 🤔
