Suomen kieli (suomi) on uralilaisen kielikunnan itämerensuomalaisiin kieliin kuuluva kieli. Suomea puhuu noin viisi miljoonaa ihmistä. Heistä suurin osa asuu Suomessa, mutta vanhoja suomenkielisiä väestöryhmiä on Pohjois-Ruotsissa (meänkielen puhujat eli tornionlaaksolaiset), Norjassa (kveenit) sekä Venäjällä Karjalan tasavallassa ja aiemmin Inkerissä, missä suomen kieli on 1900-luvun mittaan suurimmaksi osaksi hävinnyt.
