I recently had a chance to get familiar with the Mocha test framework for NodeJS and wanted to provide a really simple introduction to it. Assuming you have node and npm installed, you'll want to install mocha as a global npm module, which means using the -g flag.

Under the hood of Socket.IO namespaces

I am working on a very simple game using NodeJS and Socket.IO. I decided to separate my game and chat communication into two namespaces in Socket.IO to make the logic a bit easier to follow. One problem I encountered was that I wasn’t sure how to broadcast to all connected clients in a specific namespace. If you’re not dealing with namespaces, it’s simple:

Integration Testing with Node.js

One of the joys of enterprise programming is working with legacy applications. Recently I had to update a legacy application to reflect some changes to a third party HTTP API that it relied upon. The third party had published the API specifications but, as is often the case, did not provide an implementation to perform integration tests against.
