The Icelandic Naming Committee have issued a new ruling for name applications.
The names Luis and Dóróthea are allowed but the middle name Sjafnar is not accepted as it is not conjugated according to Icelandic grammar rules.
Last month, the name Pírati (Pirate) was found unacceptable as the name does not derive from the Icelandic language. The name Bambus (bamboo) however complies to grammatical rules.

The Icelandic Naming Committee recently decreed that the names Mia and Zion could not be allowed as Icelandic given names. The names Aríel, Selina, Jónsi, Alísa, Ylfingur and Alíana, however, passed all requirements.
