Unisex names = Prénoms épicènes : filles ou garçons ? - JolisPrénoms.fr | Name News | Scoop.it
Les prénoms épicènes sont les prénoms qui peuvent être à la fois masculins et féminins… des supers prénoms mixtes en quelque sorte ! Prenons « Camille » : l’évolution de ce prénom au cours du XXème siècle est frappante.
Clare's insight:

Claude, Tiphaine, Louison...all these names and more have been used for both boys and girls in France.  The statistics are all over the place chronologically, but it's interesting to have a look at which names have been more or less unisex over the years - not to mention good practice for gender agreement and vocab describing for little boys and girls.

Germany Adds 3rd Gender - Baby Names Still Restricted? - Nancy's Baby Names | Name News | Scoop.it
Germany is adding a third gender to birth certificates. How will this affect their baby naming law, which requires that baby names be gender-specific?
Kara @ The Art of Naming's curator insight, October 29, 2013 12:59 PM

Wow! What an intriguing problem...  (I secretly kind of like that they enforce gender-specific names, btw.)

Parents influenced by evolutionary tendency when naming children

Parents influenced by evolutionary tendency when naming children | Name News | Scoop.it
Parents' choice of baby names is influenced by an evolutionary tendency to make boys sound large and girls sound small, thus improving their chances of procreating, scientists have claimed.
Clare's insight:

Could this be?  Do people generally favour lower, more open vowels for boys and higher, more closed ones for girls?  It's tempting to go through the top 100 checking for vowels now, but I'd better save that for another day.
