I quite like that there are few if any hard-and-fast rules about which sounds make a name masculine or feminine. A bit like many modern German nouns, if I remember rightly. These kind of thoughts are fertile ground for those looking for familiar-yet-not-real fantasy character names. Also for those wishing to ponder the pronunciation of Mary/merry/marry. (Some of you will have already done so ad nauseam, and if anyone cares, they're all different for me.)
