Emmeth

Emmeth | Name News | Scoop.it
This name is so incredibly uncommon and old that I could find almost nothing about it. Dissecting the name roots em and eth, it would mean entire fire. At any rate, I'm head over heels about Emmeth, and this is another reason why I love names. I love finding names I never knew.
Clare's insight:

Wherever it comes from, it's very pretty, isn't it?  I'm going to put in my tuppenyworth and suggest it's a contraction of something like Eormengyth or Eormenthryth (which would make it cognate with Ermintrude).

Mystery Baby Name - Strange - Nancy's Baby Names

In the 1990s, the baby names Strange and Stranje popped up on the SSA’s baby name list:
Clare's insight:

I bet this isn't on any lists on unusual one-syllable middle names.  Could be a surname-reference in some cases?  But in that case, you'd expect it to be used equally for boys.
