Viele neue Space-Unternehmen in Luxemburg

Leading the way in supporting space exploration, Luxembourg is the first European state with a legal framework on the use of space resources and comes only second in the world in doing so, after the United States.
The Chamber of Deputies is soon to vote on the draft law dedicated to the appropriation of space resources, which follows international law and the Outer Space Treaty.
"We want to be first movers and we are now talking to many governments to continue the discussion on a legal framework for space exploration at a UN level," stated Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Etienne Schneider while visiting Luxembourg's Science Centre in Differdange to launch Asteroid Day on June 30. Luxembourg is in a particularly good position to lead this global effort because it is a prosperous nation with an extensive space heritage, dating back to 1985 when the government helped form SES, Europe’s first private satellite operator, said Pete Worden, the former NASA Ames Director who chairs the Breakthrough Prize Foundation.
Luxembourg also attracts less suspicion than a superpower would if it called for revision of the Outer Space Treaty. With its 1,000-person military force, it is “unlikely that Luxembourg is going to be regarded as a threat to anybody,” Worden, a member of the SpaceResources.lu advisory board, said during the April 12 panel discussion.
Worden said he is honored to advise the board because mining space resources are essential to “human expansion into the solar system.” Asteroids could become an important source of water to support life and provide fuel for exploration missions. In addition, asteroid metals could help pay for further exploration because they are valuable.
“It is easy to calculate that even a relatively small metal asteroid has enough platinum group metals to be worth — and I use a very technical term — a bazillion dollars or Euros,” Worden said. “I don’t know what the exchange rate is right now, but they are roughly similar. That’s why investment in Luxembourg is a good deal right now for Americans.”

August in Kraft.
LBAN is launching its own private investors group to support the government´s Space Resource Initiative.
Marc Molitor, chairman of the Luxembourg Business Angel Network (LBAN), is saying that this is a natural response from LBAN in order to support the government´s Space Resource Initiative and the heightened focus on developing a viable space industry within the borders of the Grand Duchy and beyond.
LBAN´s Space Angel group will be organized as a subgroup of LBAN. Its main objectives will to be to bring together interested individual investors into the space industry and stimulate & support Luxembourg´s position as a space nation. To join the group, being a LBAN member will not be a pre-requisite.
With this initiative, Marc Molitor states that LBAN clearly emphasises its role as an active and important force to support the development of Luxembourg-based businesses. The space industry has a potential for global reach. Learn more / En savoir plus / Mehr erfahren: http://www.scoop.it/t/luxembourg-europe/?&tag=Space
