PM Xavier Bettel presents new initiative aimed at giving young tech companies the opportunity to expand their international network via Vodafone.

Ninian Wilson, General Manager of Vodafone, said in December, " The innovation centre creates a unique platform to help small companies go global. The environment in Luxembourg is ideally suited to supporting such activities in the ICT space."

Silicon Luxembourg is the unique media source for startup news in Luxembourg circulating information through a web platform, social networks, a print and digital magazine (SILICON), a newsletter and a mobile application coming soon.

From now onwards, Silicon Luxembourg is the new media partner for StartUp Europe Awards 2016 (SEUA16), an initiative promoted by the European Commission and implemented by the Finnova Foundation, with the support of StartUp Europe. This initiative aims at gathering all the startups awards organisers across Europe under the umbrella of the StartUp Europe Awards Alliance. Thus, the winners in each member state’s startups awards will become national candidates for the final phase of the StartUp Europe Awards to be held in the first quarter of 2017 in Brussels.

As media partner for the StartUp Europe Awards, Silicon Luxembourg will follow the progress of the startups coming from Luxembourg through SEUA16.

Luxtrust et SnapSwap ont signé un important accord pour le développement de l’application mobile Gloneta, qui permet des paiements électroniques sans passer par les banques. La sécurité du nouvel outil en sortira renforcée.

Luxtrust et SnapSwap ont allié leurs compétences dans le domaine des paiements électroniques via la blockchain. Les deux entreprises de pointe ont signé ce jeudi 6 octobre un important partenariat pour combiner leurs forces dans Gloneta, l’application de paiement mobile développée par SnapSwap.

Gloneta met en œuvre la technologie de la blockchain pour permettre des transferts d’argent instantanés directement d’un utilisateur à un autre («peer-to-peer»), sans devoir utiliser une banque comme intermédiaire, à zéro ou très faible coût.

The Luxembourg based startup has just released a new version of its product Scorechain with new design, new interface, new logo and most importantly, a lot of new features. The online platform offers activity reports and advanced analytics for AML – Anti Money Laundering – and KYT – Know your Transaction – in order to assess risks of Bitcoin movements and provide the needed tools that help its regulation.

Based on innovative data analysis, Scorechain unveils the Scorechain Index: SCx. This brand new feature implementation is able to score Bitcoin addresses and transactions depending on their activity throughout the blockchain. The SCx guides users to define the level of trust they want to give to their counterparts and customers. SCx is a metric between 0 and 100 and is based on manual scoring and automated processing.

Luxembourg now has a private platform for reception and support for startups, Innohub Luxembourg.

Three companies - Exxus (consulting in marketing strategy and innovation strategy), INES MEDIA (communication consulting) and MindForest (change management consulting) have launched InnoHub which identifies, selects, convinces companies to come to Luxembourg and supports innovative companies from around the world that are in a situation of startup and acceleration. To do so, InnoHub builds on synergies that can be created with other players in the public and entrepreneurial ecosystem in Luxembourg.

21 startups supported - €9 million raised - 30 jobs created

InnoHub was initiated in 2015 and adopts a focused and entrepreneurial methodological approach. Less than a year after its creation, the platform already supports 21 startups coming from a dozen countries, according to Daniel Eischen, president of InnoHub. "Our customers come from neighbouring countries, as well as Israel, Singapore and the United States. So far we have raised €9 million and accompanied startups have already created 30 jobs in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and the establishment of six innovation projects," added Daniel Eischen.

Afin de financer et d’accompagner le développement de nouvelles sociétés ICT, le fonds d’amorçage en préparation depuis plusieurs mois a été dévoilé mardi. Fruit d’un partenariat public-privé, le Digital Tech Fund est doté de quelque 20 millions d’euros.

Luxembourg startup “iNui Studio” in partnership with Samsung in Europe looks to transform simple shop window displays into interactive high-tech tools, which could revolutionise the way we shop on the high street.

The patented technology (AirxTouch ™ Bar) transforms "every surface, regardless of the conditions into an interactive display," promises the young company from Foetz.

The technology has a lot to offer: it works around the clock in all light conditions. "The bar transforms a normal screen into an interactive display in less than a millisecond, making it an instant attraction for the passers-by".

The technology also works through double and triple glass panes and doesn't require your fingers to touch the surface. "Even with gloves, the hand becomes the mouse pointer: pressing, zooming and wiping as you like," the company promises to introduce its innovation at the "ISE Integrated Systems Europe" (7-10 February) in Amsterdam.

The startup LuxAI was created following a research project at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) of the University of Luxembourg, funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) under its Proof of Concept scheme. The business model of LuxAI is developing and constructing so-called social robots.

Such robots can be used, for example, in the educational or health system, where they would support trainers and therapists in their work. The robots can be programmed to practice vocabulary with children or to make rehabilitation exercises with stroke patients.

La fintech dédiée à la gouvernance dans les fonds d’investissement est la grande lauréate des premiers Fintech Awards Luxembourg dont la finale s’est déroulée mardi soir. Scaled Risk reçoit le prix de Fintech Entrepreneur of the Year et Neurodecision est récompensée pour son pitch.

En soulignant que le gouvernement, avec le concours de la Ville, va transformer un ancien commissariat, en l’occurrence la rue Glesener, pour en faire une maison des start-up, Xavier Bettel tient le rôle d’ambassadeur de premier plan d’une économie luxembourgeoise dans laquelle le digital doit être envisagé sur un mode transversal.

Luxembourg start-up Pingvalue announced on Thursday that it has received financial capital of €1.2 million from a Dutch-based private investment fund to support the growth of its community-based social marketing platform.

The funding, provided by InvestInFuture, will be dedicated to recruitment, software development and marketing of Pingvalue, which is headquartered in Luxembourg. These financial resources will faciliate sequential product launches in citires throughout the Grand Duchy, as well as the wider Benelux region and Europe.

Currently, Pingvalue is presenting its single-platform solution for developing and supporting "smart cities" to relevant candidates, such as Esch-sur-Alzette and Luxembourg in the Grand Duchy; Heerlen in the Netherlands; Ghent in Belgium and Aachen in Germany, with a view to contributing to a sustainable future economy.

"We invested in Pingvalue because of the innovative character of the company and we are convinced that it will have a major impact on our daily life," commented Edgard Creemers, General Manager, InvestInFuture.

En date du 12 avril 2016, le Vice-Premier ministre, ministre de l’Économie, Étienne Schneider, a présenté un fonds d’amorçage que le gouvernement a créé conjointement avec un groupe d’investisseurs privés pour soutenir le financement et le développement de start-up actives dans le domaine des technologies de l’information et de la communication (TIC) qui est considéré comme un secteur clé de la diversification économique nationale.

Dénommé "Digital Tech Fund", le fonds a été lancé sur initiative du ministère de l’Économie dans le cadre de "Digital Lëtzebuerg". Il prendra des participations dans des entreprises innovantes prometteuses créées il y a moins de 7 ans et qui développent des produits qui existent déjà de préférence sous forme de prototype fonctionnel. Le fonds visera surtout, mais pas exclusivement, à réaliser de tels investissements de capital-risque dans des domaines comme la cybersécurité, les FinTech, le Big Data, le Digital Health, les médias ainsi que les réseaux de communication de la prochaine génération, l’apprentissage numérique, "l'Internet des objets" ou les télécommunications et services satellitaires.
