LUXEMBURG - Das Pixel-Gebäude, Sitz von Vodafone auf dem Kirchberg, wird Zuwachs bekommen: Firmen, die keine Start-Ups mehr sind, siedeln sich dort an.

Es war ganz schön viel los bei der Vorstellung des Innovationszentrum Tomorrow Street am Dienstag. Premierminister Xavier Bettel und der stellvertretende Premierminister Etienne Scheider waren zur Eröffnung mit von der Partie. Mit Tomorrow Street wollen Vodafone und der Luxemburgische Staat den Technoport-Unternehmen eine Chance geben, die nicht mehr jung genug sind um als Start-Ups zu gelten, aber auch noch nicht reif genug sind, um sich auf internationaler Ebene durchzusetzen. Dies alles passiert in einem High-Tech Umfeld.

Eines der luxemburgischen Unternehmen, die im März auf der CeBit in Hannover ausstellten, war Velocity. Eine Cloud-Plattform, die es ermöglicht, tiefe Lernalgorithmen zu verwalten, hat das Startup zudem einen einheitlichen Algorithmus entwickelt, der es Unternehmen erlaubt, mit wenigen Klicks ihre Daten zu analysieren und zu nutzen. Momentan ist Velocity in Europa und Südostasien aktiv, möchte aber bald auch auf dem US-Markt Fuß fassen, wie der Softwareentwickler Ivan Jacobs, der das Startup 2016 gründete, dem „Journal“ erklärt.

Eine Million Euro lässt sich das luxemburgische Wirtschaftsministerium die Ankurbelung des Tourismus im Luxemburger Osten kosten. Zunächst. Das ist die Anschubfinanzierung, um das Start-up "Regiotels" auf die Beine zu stellen.

Die dort versammelten Tourismusprofis sollen das machen, was sich viele kleinere und mittlere Betriebe gar nicht oder nur schlecht leisten können: Marketing für die Hotels, Verkauf der zur Verfügung stehenden Betten und eine maximale Auslastung mit neuen Kunden erreichen.

Preisdumping sorgt für Nachfrage

Im Moment laufen die Buchungen über Portale wie booking.com oder expedia.com mit dem Ergebnis, dass in saison-schwachen Zeiten Preisdumping den Ausschlag für die Buchung gibt.

"Mit diesen Zimmerpreisen kommen wir nicht mehr auf unsere Kosten", sagt Robert Hein, Direktor des Hotels Bel-Air in Echternach. Das soll sich zukünftig über eine vorher mit "Regiotel" ausgemachte Marge für Maximum-Preis und Minimum-Preis ändern.

A Luxembourg-based trust services provider is teaming up with the Blockchain identity startup Cambridge Blockchain to launch a dedicated platform for the European Union.

LuxTrust, which provides digital identity solutions to businesses and government, will develop an entirely separate platform using the Blockchain.

“Working with Cambridge Blockchain allows us to augment the scope of provided identities, including attributes for new sectors and businesses and will enable users to share personal data fully respecting the increasingly stringent European regulatory framework,” CEO Pascal Rogiest said in a press release issued Monday.

Cambridge’s input will see so-called “proof by design” concepts employed to provide various client-oriented services including consent management and compliance.

Coming from the EU heartland, supporters say the platform is even due to “transform” the identity industry.

Le portail d’informations irlandais Siliconrepublic.com a dressé une liste des 25 start-up européennes les plus prometteuses pour l’année en cours. Une nouvelle occasion pour Talkwalker de faire parler d’elle.

Décidément, la petite entreprise luxembourgeoise créée en 2009 par Thibaut Britz et Christophe Folschette n’en finit pas de séduire.

Après avoir été qualifiée comme développant l’un des 27 meilleurs outils marketing du continent dans l’édition 2016 du classement SaaS de l’Accel Euroscape, et avoir fait la une de l’édition septembre/octobre de Paperjam, la start-up a été intégrée dans un classement du site d’informations Siliconrepublic.com.

LUXEMBOURG - Le bâtiment Pixel au Kirchberg accueillera bientôt de nouvelles sociétés. Plus vraiment des start-up mais pas encore des entreprises mûres.

Grâce à son étage réservé dans le bâtiment Pixel au Kirchberg, Tomorrow Street pourra accueillir jusqu'à 16 entreprises. «Mais uniquement pour une durée limitée d'une à deux années. Ensuite, elles devront se trouver leur propre environnement de travail tout en restant en contact avec Vodafone Procurement ici au Luxembourg et son réseau», expliquait, mardi, l'un des directeurs de Tomorrow Street, Frédéric Richter.

The Luxembourg-based RTL Group has led a $15-million-dollar, Series A funding round for Israeli immersive-content start-up Inception.

The funding will help the virtual reality (VR) company, launched in 2016, to expand its "content catalogue, enhance its technology platform and accelerate growth".

Benny Arbel, Inception chief executive, said in a statement that the company wanted to make VR more "accessible and enjoyable for audiences around the world" and that partnering with RTL Group would help achieve that. 

"Together, RTL Group and Inception can play a key role in shaping that experience by combining our expertise in content creation, episodic storytelling and immersive technology to take audiences to the next level," Arbel said.

RTL Group has been investing in digital media and growing its digital video business, as it redefines what it considers to be TV. 

The company also has a content production arm, FremantleMedia, which has operations in 31 countries, and whose network creates 12,000 hours of programming a year.

Luxembourg startups active in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector can apply to be part of Fit 4 Start -- Luxinnovation's 16 week-long acceleration programme.

In its fifth edition, Fit 4 Start will begin in October and is set to give advice and funding to five early stage companies, helping them to develop product prototypes and teaching them how to test it with their first clients. 

Participants get free access to the co-working space of an incubator and also gain access to a network of contacts supporting startups in Luxembourg. 

Selected startups will receive €50,000 in funding that they need to match with €10,000 of equity.

Paying for fuel at a petrol station in Luxembourg could be possible from a mobile app before the end of this year.

New technology, created by a team of four people behind Luxembourg start-up  CarPay-Diem, means drivers will no longer have to carry a credit card or wait to complete a transaction at certain petrol stations.

The app, which is set to launch in September with a pilot programme, will automatically switch on a mobile phone as it enters a partnered petrol station through geolocation technology.

"When a user arrives at a station the phone automatically switches on," Chief Executive Officer of CarPay-Diem, Frédéric Stiernon, explained. "The app asks the driver to select the number of the pump and the app then signals when the pump is ready to be used.

"The driver fills up and immediately receives a receipt via the app. It will show the amount of fuel and the price."

Just as the start-ups selected in the 13 Orange Fabs in the world, young Belgian and Luxembourgish jewels will benefit from specific support enabling them to accelerate their development in their countries and internationally through the presence Orange Group.

Season 1 of Orange Fab Belgium and Luxembourg will start on 1 September 2017. Interested start-ups and developing products and services in sectors such as Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Internet objects, video content Mobile and connected objects can now apply on www.orangefab.be.

WIDE Startup-Programm vorgestellt:
Women in Digital Empowerment (WIDE) hat am Freitag sein Programm für Startup-Gründerinnen im Technologie-Bereich vorgestellt. Das so genannte „Startup Leadership“-Programm will in diesem Jahr zehn Frauen die Möglichkeit geben, sich im digitalen Bereich selbständig zu machen.

Es wird von der Europäischen Kommission unterstützt. Darüber hinaus sind auch das Wirtschaftsministerium und private Unternehmen Partner. Angesprochen sind Frauen, die Englisch oder Französisch sprechen, eine Idee für eine Gründung oder ein Produkt haben und sich bislang nicht recht trauten. Sie erhalten Zugang zum Netzwerk, Beratung und nehmen an gemeinschaftlichen Aktivitäten teil.

The first StartUp Europe Awards, the Eurovision for startups, ceremony took place last night in Brussels at the European Parliament. Two Luxembourg-based startups, vyzVoice and APATEQ, have been awarded out of the 6 national nominees in total including OUNI, JOB TODAY, SWIRL, Digicash. Silicon Luxembourg also came runner-up in the Best Media Partner category.

La start-up luxembourgeoise spécialisée dans de nouveaux modes de paiement a été récompensée mercredi dans la capitale américaine par le groupe bancaire BBVA.

SnapSwap ne cache pas se joie d’avoir été retenue parmi 200 start-up mondiales puis 10 finalistes de l’une des manches du concours «BBVA Open Talent Identity Competition» qui s’est déroulée mercredi soir à Washington DC.  

Le géant bancaire BBVA orienté sur les marchés hispanophones organise en effet son concours «Open Talent», qui est devenu parmi les plus importants au monde pour les jeunes pousses dans les fintech. Divisé en plusieurs catégories, il permet à l’institution financière créée en 1857 et orientée principalement sur les marchés hispaniques – et actionnaire de la banque turque Garanti – de repérer de nouveaux modèles et donc des partenaires potentiels.

De jeunes entrepreneurs «prêts pour le business»
Lancée l'année dernière, la House of Entrepreneurship «doit atteindre sa vitesse de croisière façon TGV, et devenir un guichet unique pour les personnes qui souhaitent lancer ou développer une entreprise», a expliqué Carlo Thelen, directeur général de la Chambre de Commerce, lors de la présentation du bilan 2016 ce lundi matin. Signe de l'intérêt des chefs d'entreprises et autres entrepreneurs, près de 20 000 contacts physiques, téléphoniques et e-mails ont été répertoriés sur la période 2016-2017, soit 66% de plus qu'en 2015-2016.

«Il y a beaucoup de jeunes qui se lancent dans l'ICT mais le secteur de l'Horesca est aussi largement représenté avec des projets de bars ou encore de restaurants», souligne Carlo Thelen. La House of Entrepreneurship livre toutes sortes de conseils aux entrepreneurs sur les procédures, mais favorise également le financement des projets grâce à la mutualité de cautionnement.

The Luxembourg House of Financial Technology (LHoFT) has at last opened its doors and is now poring over the applications of 50 fintech start-up companies.

The LHoFT is a public/private partnership that aims to establish the Grand Duchy as a European fintech centre, offering start-up incubation and co-working spaces.

Of the 50 applicants, 10 will be selected to set up shop at the LHOFT's Innovation Hub.

The LHOFT is looking for start-up companies offering something new in such areas as digital investing and portfolio management, blockchain applications, payment solutions, data analytics, financial services artificial intelligence, security and authentication, and regulation technology, among other things.

For the third consecutive year, ICT startups from all over the world have been invited by Docler Holding and Luxinnovation to participate in the contest “Pitch Your Startup”. Out of a total of 160 applications from 25 different countries, the jury selected 17 ICT startups, based on the criteria of innovation, uniqueness, creativity and growth potential.
