L’arrivée à son bord du fonds américain Marlin Equity Partners permet à l’entreprise d’envisager une globalisation de ses activités. Première étape, l’ouverture prochaine d’un bureau en Asie.
«Pour être un des leaders, il faut avoir la bonne technologie, un très bon produit, des équipes qui marchent bien», résume Robert Glaesener. Au lendemain de l’annonce du rachat de Talkwalker par le fonds américain Marlin Equity Partners, le CEO de l’entreprise envisage l’avenir avec des ambitions renouvelées.
L’objectif est donc d’être parmi les leaders mondiaux des outils de veille et d’analyse du web et des réseaux sociaux. «Le potentiel est énorme», ajoute Robert Glaesener. «Selon des études, notre marché est estimé à 9 milliards de dollars.» De la veille sur l’e-réputation d’une société ou d’une marque, Talkwalker peut s’étendre à des services d’aide à la rédaction de contenu, par exemple.

The latest Startup Weekend Luxembourg, hosted at Technoport between 24-26 November, reserved a joyful surprise for two groups of the University of Luxembourg students who are passionate about entrepreneurship and delivered an impressive outcome in this competition.

Their projects CheckMath (a math app enabling sustainable learning) and Hire Students (a job placement concept for students in Luxembourg) convinced the jury and were listed 1st and 4th of 12 innovative startup projects. This victory was all the more impressive as the student groups competed with many participants with rich professional experience.
Part of their winning formula was attributed to attending the Ideation Camp of the newly created Entrepreneurship Program of the University in October. La start-up basée à la Lhoft a remporté le 1er prix du hackathon international organisé par BNP Paribas pour une solution facilitant l’ouverture de comptes bancaires pour des clients professionnels, grâce à l’intelligence artificielle.
Tetrao se construit une réputation européenne. La jeune pousse a en effet réussi à convaincre le jury composé du top management de BNP Paribas avec sa solution d’intelligence artificielle capable de collecter et d’interpréter des documents disponibles en ligne pour accélérer l’ouverture de comptes bancaires pour des clients professionnels. Elle a remporté le 1er prix du BNP Paribas International Hackathon dans la catégorie «expérience client», a indiqué la banque dans un communiqué publié mardi.
La fintech luxembourgeoise était en concurrence avec 15 autres start-up finalistes venues de Berlin, Istanbul, Nankin, Paris, Rome, San Francisco, Singapour et Varsovie. Tetrao a précédemment remporté l’étape luxembourgeoise du hackathon, organisée entre le 9 et le 11 juin. Depuis, la start-up a travaillé en étroite collaboration avec des experts de BGL BNP Paribas pour co-concevoir, développer, implémenter et tester la solution proposée. Pour répondre aux questions les plus fréquentes des start-up fintech basées ou non au Grand-Duché, la Luxembourg house of financial technology organisera de manière ponctuelle des sessions de questions/réponses sous forme de vidéoconférence avec des experts.
Face à l’afflux de questions qu’elle reçoit et qui sont souvent identiques, la Lhoft a décidé de prendre les devants en mettant en place une hotline ponctuelle destinée aux start-up fintech. Une première session sera organisée jeudi 23 novembre dans ses locaux entre 8h30 et 10h30.

Point de rencontre pour la semaine de milliers de start-up, la cité aux mille couleurs accueille l’édition 2017 du Web Summit, rassemblement de jeunes entreprises désireuses de percer sur le marché. L’occasion pour le Luxembourg de faire valoir ses atouts.
«Au Luxembourg, nous avons autant de lois que nécessaire, mais le moins possible pour promouvoir l’innovation.» C’est par cette phrase sibylline que Xavier Bettel a choisi de résumer sur Twitter sa présence au sein du Web Summit 2017 qui se tient jusqu’à jeudi à Lisbonne. Principal événement en matière de technologies numériques en Europe avec plus de 50.000 participants, il doit permettre la mise en relation entre start-up – dont près d’un tiers lié aux nouvelles technologies – et bailleurs de fonds. L’occasion aussi, pour le Luxembourg, de s’offrir une vitrine comme terre d’accueil pour les jeunes pousses les plus prometteuses.

An unprecedented partnership between the European American Enterprise Council (EAEC), a Luxembourg-based accelerator, and Luxinnovation will enable eight start-ups from Luxembourg to be present at the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas in January.
The cherry on top of the cake? The eight stands will be in the Eureka Pavilion, the most prestigious of this worldwide event for electronics enthusiasts, which will take place from January 9 to 12 2018.
This year, the CES welcomed 200,000 professionals. 600 start-ups were present on the famous Eureka space in the middle of the 4,000 exhibitors, and the event was followed by 60,000 media outlets.
The eight start-ups will be selected before 15 November by a committee composed of members of the EAEC and Luxinnovation.
The privileged sectors are space, automotive, media & content, fintech, cyber security, big data, internet of things (IoT), green technologies and food technologies. Preparations are underway for the House of Start-Ups, the future home of nyuko, the Luxembourg House of Financial Technology (LHoFT) and the Luxembourg City incubator.
Set to open its doors in the first quarter of 2018, the House of Start-Ups welcomes entrepreneurs active in a variety of sectors, from tourism and urban development, to information and communications technology, as well as fintech.
Spanning some 5,000 square meters, over four floors, the incubator for start-ups will be based inside the Dôme building on rue du Laboratoire, in Luxembourg City. Plus de demande que d'offre
Le centre d'accueil et d'innovation pour start-up fait l'objet d'un cofinancement de la part du ministère de l'Économie, qui prend en charge les travaux de rénovation à hauteur de 80%, soit 140.000 euros. Les entreprises hébergées en son sein seront encadrées par Luxinnovation. "Nous pensons pouvoir remplir les salles dans les deux ou trois mois qui viennent", explique Jean-Paul Schuler, le directeur de cette agence, qui s'est engagée dans un premier temps avec Technoport, à détecter les start-up prêtes à s'installer dans l'Innovation Hub. Pour Luxinnovation, qui traite chaque année près de 400 dossiers, "il y a aujourd'hui plus de demande que d'offre" sur le marché. D'où la nécessité de multiplier encore les incubateurs et accélérateurs au Grand-Duché, même si l'écosystème luxembourgeois s'est fortement développé ces dernières années, comme l'a rappelé la secrétaire d'Etat à l'Economie Francine Closener.
Si les écotechnologies sont privilégiées comme domaine de prédilection pour les start-up de l'Innovation Hub, des entreprises d'autres secteurs pourront s'y loger également. Pour le bourgmestre de la ville, l'Innovation Hub est d'abord un projet pilote qui s'inscrit dans le cadre du futur concept du site "Neischmelz". Avant les premiers travaux de chantiers prévus dans près de deux ans, la ville souhaite profiter de cette "étape transitoire" pour mettre en place des projets économiques à court terme, pour les inscrire ensuite dans une vision à plus long terme. New public-private innovation center opens its doors in Luxembourg
Recognizing a lack of support for late-stage startups that have completed Series A funding, Tomorrow Street leverages its network to help promising companies grow internationally.
“Our aim is to build innovation by connecting the dots and giving companies introductions and up-front exposure that they would normally not have,” explained Warrick Cramer, CEO, Tomorrow Street. “In today’s digital world the human connection has never been more important, and Tomorrow Street will provide those human connections.”
The excitement generated by the event — from the attendance list, which included Luxembourg’s Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, to the ribbon-cutting ceremony, to the lively afterparty — was a reminder that innovation is king in this small country. Le Luxembourg présentera pour la première fois au mois de janvier un stand aux couleurs nationales lors du plus grand salon dédié aux nouvelles technologies, le CES de Las Vegas. Huit pépites luxembourgeoises y participeront. Nous continuons notre série avec CoinPlus.
Si l’investissement dans des crypto-monnaies peut s’avérer un excellent placement à moyen et long terme, il n’en reste pas moins risqué. En effet, la seule preuve de son avoir réside dans un code d’accès. C’est pour donner un peu de poids à la technologie que CoinPlus a mis en place une solution de «crypto-barre».
La start-up propose ainsi d’inscrire sur un lingot d’or, d’argent ou d’acier le code qui fait office d’acte de propriété de la somme de crypto-monnaie acquise. Plus de risque, donc, de voir sa clé virtuelle disparaître en cas de casse ou de piratage de son ordinateur. Les dirigeants de CoinPlus cherchent maintenant à convaincre les fonds d’investissement et autres family offices à proposer cette solution comme alternative à leurs produits d’investissement classiques. La start-up luxembourgeoise a annoncé jeudi avoir composé, à l’aide de son intelligence artificielle, la musique du dernier-né de la série de jeux vidéo sur mobile Pixelfield: Battle Royale. Une première mondiale, selon la start-up.
Ce n’est qu’un jeu vidéo aux graphismes basiques, développé par un studio américain indépendant, Epic Stars, et que l’on peut télécharger gratuitement sur son smartphone. Il n’empêche qu’Aiva est une pionnière dans le nouveau monde des technologies intelligentes.
La jeune pousse luxembourgeoise, qui annonçait la semaine dernière avoir levé 650.000 euros, vient de créer en effet la toute première musique de jeu vidéo signée par une intelligence artificielle. A competition that’s open to all companies in Northern-America, Europe and Israël
Startups in Luxembourg are also encouraged to submit their innovative AI-projects. Submissions will be accepted from Oct. 10 to Dec. 31, 2017, and open across three regions: Europe (EU), Israel, and North America (Canada, Mexico and U.S.). Companies will be eligible to apply if they have raised less than $4M in combined equity funding and/or loans at day of application, and must introduce a product, service or platform that utilizes or intends to utilize AI techniques, as defined by relevant scientific research. Microsoft Ventures — the corporate venture arm of Microsoft —, in collaboration with Madrona Venture Group, Notion Capital and Vertex Ventures Israel, announced a global competition, Innovate.AI, aimed at uncovering emerging startups working to progress the future of artificial intelligence. Since the Chivas Venture first launched in 2014, almost 6000 social enterprises have applied for the chance to receive a share of the annual $1 million fund. (This year, 29 countries / 5 continents).

L’Innovation Hub Dudelange se situe dans le bâtiment autrefois occupé par ArcelorMittal au Luxembourg, juste devant les immenses aciéries encore désaffectées.

C’est un incubateur pas comme les autres que la Ville de Dudelange a présenté ce vendredi à la presse. Les 500m2 de surface dont il se compose seront en effet mis à disposition non seulement des start-up, mais également des sociétés plus matures.
La seule condition pour espérer obtenir une place dans ce futur «centre d’accueil et d’innovation pour entreprises» est d’être actif dans le domaine de l’écotechnologie, soit l’ensemble des technologies qui contribuent à l’amélioration du respect de l’environnement.
Une autre particularité de l’Innovation Hub sera son lien avec le projet de l’écoquartier Neischmelz, qui sera construit sur les friches industrielles situées juste derrière. Attracting startups to Luxembourg
Luxinnovation has recently seen its mission enlarged by the Ministry of the Economy in order to promote Luxembourg as a European hub for high-performance businesses and economic activities. The country is stepping up its efforts to attract foreign direct investment in a variety of fields (ICT, Automotive, Space, Manufacturing, and Cleantech to name but a few). This sector-driven approach will be complemented with actions aiming to attract new disruptive businesses in numerous areas (Fintech Regtech, Data-analytics…). In this context, the “Fit 4 Start” programme could be considered as a “pilot initiative” to attract new ICT business.
