The annual ceremony was held at Grand Theatre and class of 2017 was described as 'great performers'.

A total of 19 students received an award for having studied at the school from kindergarten.

ISL Director, Nicki Crush, addressed the graduates during the ceremony: "Life is a journey and you’ve just completed the first 18 years of it. Sometimes you can take it at a leisurely pace, sometimes you have to run to keep up and so my advice is very simple - plan the very best possible journey you can.

"Keep on learning, be thoughtful, be curious, be grateful and say thank you – to your parents, your teachers, your friends – they have helped you on your journey and are your biggest supporters. And finally, be happy and enjoy every day."

Alumnus, Daniel Ham, who now works for the United Nations World Food Programme in New York, delivered a speech to the new graduates.

"You have a world of choices in front of you," he said. "Seize your opportunities. Be champion for equality and pursue your passion."

Technology has always affected the physical world in the form of engineered systems to generate electricity and water, manufacturing facilities to build automobiles and run environmental systems in buildings, for example. However, changes in that technology now drive IT governance and strategy toward convergence in an accelerated fashion, blurring the line between the « digital » and the « physical ».

IoT accelerates this convergence in the financial, insurance, retail and consumer fields as well. Gartner says that by year-end 2017, more than 20% of enterprises will have digital risk services devoted to protecting business initiatives using devices and services in the Internet of Things.

Although cybersecurity has always been a concern for all technology, information and IT security have dominated the development and implementation of technology and solutions. Now the « digital explosion » requires that organizations consider cybersecurity as a superset of IT security to incorporate these new requirements.

IS Days is a two-day event gathering cybersecurity professionals for an exclusive programme of seminars and presentations given by recognised experts, live demos in the exhibition area and many networking opportunities.

For the first time this year’s edition will include a prestigious dinner gathering 200 IT decision-makers to reward best practices on March 28th.

Security Made in Luxembourg has announced five measures that will help with protecting and securing our computers and digital devices in 2017.

It may be a new year, but the same cyber-threats are present as always. Such threats include password hacking, Ransomwares, increasing attacks using mobile interfaces to gain entry, the boom of the internet of things which tend to pass under CSO radars, and finally the delay between an attack and its discovery, which is not likely to decrease.

To help protect ourselves from such threats, Security Made in Luxembourg has recommended the following steps to take in the new year:

1. Create a strong and unique password comprised of at least 12 characters, including numbers and special characters. There should also be two-factor authentication activated when possible for added security.

2. Prevent Ransomewares by backing up regularly.

3. Prevent mobile malwares on smartphones and tablets by only connecting to trusted networks or using particular professional applications.

4. Use extra security measures for the internet of things, which can be attacked by undetected malwares.

5. Be aware of cyber-attacks and cyber-attack attempts and share any you may find with others rather than ignoring them, so as to best face this type of threat.

Finally, do not forget that personal data is exactly that: personal. As such, new European regulation is introducing the “privacy by design” initiative, to come into effect on 25 May 2018, to better protect personal information.

The Legatum Institute, a policy research group, has released its annual "Global Prosperity Index," a major survey that ranks countries based on factors including national wealth, education levels, and safety. One key factor the survey considers is governance, which is broken down into three categories: effective governance, democracy and political participation, and the rule of law. Legatum measured these variables by considering things like voter turnout, legislative independence, and the number of women in parliament.

Luxembourg is to create a cybersecurity centre in 2017 to further information security in the public and private sector, it was announced on Tuesday.

The aim of the centre would be to increase the competitive advantage of Luxembourg cybersecurity in the short term and in the medium term contribute to the development of ecosystems in areas like the Internet of Things, space technology and FinTech.

The initiative was announced by Secretary of State for the Economy Francine Closener at the first edition of the "Cybersecurity Day" on Tuesday.

The startup LuxAI was created following a research project at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) of the University of Luxembourg, funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) under its Proof of Concept scheme. The business model of LuxAI is developing and constructing so-called social robots.

Such robots can be used, for example, in the educational or health system, where they would support trainers and therapists in their work. The robots can be programmed to practice vocabulary with children or to make rehabilitation exercises with stroke patients.

Entitled Chorus, the infrastructure allows users to utilise the vyzVoice end-to-end cloud infrastructure solution for data management to create high value applications. The platform includes multiple features such as custom analytics, predictive analysis, reporting, notification system enabling the users to transform raw data into valuable assets.

Information such as analytics, graphics, videos in minutes are displayed via dynamic containers called "voices" gathered into dashboards providing a tailored experience for varied users.

Villers believes that threat intelligence is mandatory for ensuring long-term security, and that organizations should invest in data loss prevention solutions, as well as finding a way to tackle the insider threat.

“Introducing artificial intelligence into cybersecurity is a good way to handle time-consuming, low value-added tasks. It will require a training / development / improvement period, but it will certainly help cybersecurity specialists focus on more decision-making tasks and making the right decision in a timely manner,” Raymond adds.

“Companies no longer have the means to protect everything, so it’s essential for them to invest in detection technologies in order to obtain the right information and the source of the information. This implies even more data to process and, thus, the implementation of technologies based on data analytics and machine learning, such as behavioural analysis.”

As part of European Maker Week, Girls in Tech and Bee Creative will be holding a creative programming workshop and a tour of the Creative Studio of BASE 1, one of the 6 new maker spaces for youth available in Luxembourg.

From 18:00 to 20:30 on Tuesday 31 May 2016, participants will be able to discover the educational possibilities offered by a Maker Space and how it fosters creativity, particularly for children and teenagers. The event will be a family activity and participants are invited to bring their child with them (minimum age: 10).

The activity will include a tour of BASE 1's Creative Studio, followed by a Q&A session. A creative programming workshop will enable those registered to start designing and programming their own Sphere Ball, a small robot ball that will be able to avoid obstacles and look for light to charge its batteries.

Entry to the event is free but requires prior registration here. The event will take place at Forum Gesseknäppchen, 40 Boulevard Pierre Dupong, 1430 Luxembourg.
