Cabaret- ster krijgt de eer op L.A. Italia Festival.Liza Minnelli zal geëerd worden met een Lifetime Achievement Award tijdens het L.A. Italia Festival dat van 15 tot 21 februari wordt gehouden in Los Angeles. Deze wordt altijd gegeven aan een entertainer met Italiaanse roots en Liza' s vader Vincente Minnelli, die films als Meet me in St. Louis regisseerde, was van Siciliaanse komaf. Ook Anjelica Huston en Al Pacino kregen bij eerdere edities deze prijs voor hun oeuvre.

Pino Daniele is niet meer. De eerste maandag van het nieuwe jaar begon al met slecht nieuws. En vele herinneringen die opeens door mijn hoofd dwarrelen. Zo begin je met veel energie aan de eerste maandag van het jaar en zo ben je opeens helemaal stil als je op je scherm het bericht leest dat Pino Daniele er niet meer is. Een brok in mijn keel. Herinneringen die door mijn hoofd dwarrelen. Zijn muziek is zo verbonden met mijn eerste tijd in Italie. Ik draaide zijn bandjes kapot in het verre 1995. Leerde zo behoorlijk wat Napolitaans en alle bloemrijke uitdrukkingen die daarbij horen. Dat was handig met die bende vrienden uit het zuiden om me heen, die altijd vol goede moed een zin startte in ABI (algemeen beschaafd Italiaans), maar steevast diezelfde zin eindigde in hun eigen taal die tot op vandaag de dag mijn hart doet smelten. En natuurlijk kwam de herinnering aan een fantastisch concert boven. Met veel moeite wisten we op het laatste moment toch nog kaartjes te krijgen. Het was het meer dan waard: ruim drie uur stond hij onafgebroken op het podium om zijn muziek met jazz- en bluesinvloeden te spelen.

Ik houd van zwart-wit, van theatraal, van een incidentele vioolpartij, groots en meeslepend, experimentele videoclips uit de jaren ’60 en van mooie danspasjes. Ik luister ook incidenteel wel naar moderne Italiaanse pop, maar ik houd toch meer van de chanson, van het Italiaanse levenslied.

Sanremo, Italy - Back in October the Italian broadcaster RAI confirmed that the winner of theFestival di Sanremo 2015 will have the right to represent Italy at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest in Austria. Tonight, and for the following four evenings the Festival takes place in Sanremo and you can watch it live on Sanremo's site, on Rai.tv as well as with the Rai app. Tonight the Italian Song Contest, the popular Festival di Sanremo, kicks off through their broadcaster RAI. Presenter will be Carlo Conti alongside last year's winner, Arisa, and last year's Italian hopeful at the Eurovision Song Contest, Emma. The Spanish actress Rocio Muñoz will also host. The list of established artists ("Campioni") that participate in the 65th edition of the Italian song contest consists of 20 acts that will perform their songs during the five shows along the week. Also eight newcomers participate in their own category Nuove Proposte while several guests -including our latest Eurovision Song Contest winner, Conchita Wurst- perform throughout the week.
