Subjective measures are increasingly included among the set of assessment tools for poverty used by countries. Objective poverty measures alone are not sufficient to understand the complexity of poverty. Subjective measures can therefore complement them in important ways, especially with regard to reaching the poorest and making their voices heard. This publication explores the conceptual basis and provides approaches to the measurement and analysis of subjective poverty. The document consolidates country examples, reviews methodological challenges in data collection, and offers practical solutions from specific question wordings to ready-to-use R computer code for subjective poverty lines estimation. Building on existing international work, it recommends subjective poverty indicators for international comparison.

Historically there has been very little discussion of feminism within the international humanitarian system. In recent years, some donor governments – including Canada, Mexico, and Germany – have adopted overtly feminist foreign policies and applied these to their strategies and guidance for humanitarian assistance. his technical study authored by IFAD, FAO and WFP highlights the role of discriminatory social institutions, unequal power relations and agency in influencing climate resilience processes for sustainable agrifood systems. It also defines core characteristics of gender transformative change in climate resilience programming and presents a collection of climate change interventions that address different dimensions of gender transformative change and the management of disaster risks in agrifood systems. The main audience for this study consists of food security, agriculture, climate and gender practitioners and experts with an interest in gender transformative change in interventions related to climate adaptation and disaster risk management. The paper was developed in the framework of the Joint Programme on Gender Transformative Approaches for Food Security and Nutrition (JP GTA).

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are dangerously off track. The prevailing “gap-filling” approach to SDG financing has proven inadequate, failing to deliver the scale, impact or equity required. Global efforts remain fixated on mobilizing additional financing rather than embedding the SDGs at the core of economic and financial systems. Blended finance, often heralded as a silver bullet, has fallen short: public resources dominate blended deals, often de-risking private initiative in lower-risk, lower-impact projects. To redirect this trajectory, the international financing architecture must be reshaped around the SDGs.
