Why the “pay to play” voiceover business model does not work for me -Voxmarketising

Why the “pay to play” voiceover business model does not work for me -Voxmarketising | Sirenetta Leoni Inside Voiceover—Information + Insights On Voice Acting | Scoop.it
Ran across this recent thought-provoking post from voice actor/blogger, Peter K. O’Connell, in which explains his objections to the the 'pay to play' voice over business models like Voices.com and Voice 1-2-3. His arguments are fair, well-reasoned, and never-mean spirited; and the points he raises, worthy of consideration. Even if you disagree with him, it will give you something to think about...

RT @tjkeenan: Here's a new, cool tool for #voiceover folks that turns your iPhone or iPad into an audition machine on the go.
Inside VO's comment: I have no idea how good the audio quality is, but for $60, it might be worth checking into. Same company also sells the iKlip Universal microphone stand adapter for iPad that you can use to safely attach your iPad to any mic stand anywhere which also looks very cool. The mind boggles at the possibilities...

Setting Up a Simple Remote Phone Patch from Your Home Studio Using Skype

Setting Up a Simple Remote Phone Patch from Your Home Studio Using Skype | Sirenetta Leoni Inside Voiceover—Information + Insights On Voice Acting | Scoop.it
Voice actor/software developer, Corey Snow, has put together a well laid-out, detailed step-by-step tutorial on how to go about setting up a phone patch inexpensively from your home computer using Skype. He also provides recommendations on equipment. While not for technical nooBs, if you have a moderate-level of knowledge of how the equipment in your home studio works---what the components are and what plugs into what---and are able to follow directions, you should be able to get your home phone patch up and running. A big shout out to Corey who clearly put much time and effort into putting this tutorial together.

Top Voiceover of the Week - Miss Evelyn | Chevy Camaro | Goodby Silverstein

IMHO the best voiceover of this years' Superbowl. I actually forgot I was listening to two actors. Brilliant writing + acting. Side note: With 119.6 viewers, this ad now holds the title of "most viewed ad in history."(TRANSCRIPT BELOW)

AGENCY GUY 1: All right, so dude, check this out, I got a great idea for the Camaro commercial…
AGENCY GUY 2: Mmm…
AGENCY GUY 1: We start in that desert…you know..?
AGENCY GUY 2: Yeah…
AGENCY GUY 1: And it’s like “what car is that?” and then, it's like BAM! Super fast.
AGENCY GUY 2: And mirrors… a whole bunch of mirrors!
AGENCY GUY 1: Ummm...I guess, but maybe it's a woman that’s driving…
AGENCY GUY 2: Hot!
AGENCY GUY 1: Totally hot…she’s blond.
AGENCY GUY 2: Redhead.
AGENCY GUY 1: Or a redhead…You know, we should be in the city.
AGENCY GUY 2: Driving fast…
AGENCY GUY 1: Screeching through the streets…
AGENCY GUY 2: Dodging hay bales…
AGENCY GUY 1: No. She's in the city. I don't know why you'd have hay, but what about a chase?
AGENCY GUY 2: Oh yeah, yeah! With bad guys! And a helicopter!
AGENCY GUY 1: Right, yeah, all that stuff! They're right behind her…they're catching up… This is where the energy is, man!
AGENCY GUY 2: Yeah, and they chase her onto a roof, and she flies off!
AGENCY GUY 1: Dude? She just flies off the building?
AGENCY GUY 2: Picture it.
AGENCY GUY 1: Yeah, I'm picturing disaster…look, we need an ending.
AGENCY GUY 2: I got it! Car lands. She drives up. She's a teacher.
AGENCY GUY 1: A teacher!
MS. EVELYN (O.C.) Hi guys!
AGENCY GUY 2: Hey, hi Ms. Evelyn.

Being Ok With the "No" | Advice for Voice Actors On How to Deal With Rejection...Lots of it! | Sirenetta Leoni Inside Voiceover—Information + Insights On Voice Acting | Scoop.it
Good insights from voice actor/blogger Sylvie Pamphile re: rejection. She correctly points out that rejection is a built-in, unavoidable part of VO. In other words, the sooner you recognize that you are "powerless" over rejection, and learn to stop taking it personally, brush it off and keep going, the better off you'll be.

Voiceover Students beware! (scams and other nasty stuff) – How to do ... | Sirenetta Leoni Inside Voiceover—Information + Insights On Voice Acting | Scoop.it
Good, common-sense advice. This blogger is absolutely right: aspiring voice actors need to be aware that there are a lot of scams perpetrated on the internet. Be very suspicious of anyone who claims to hold the "secret to voice acting success," or can teach you "everything you need to know" in one book, telecourse or seminar. The truth is that there is no big "secret;" the formula for success is very well-known---time, hard work, patience, good training, commitment, passion, courage---and even with all that, there are still no guarantees. As with anything else, use plain common sense before you buy; do your research and check things out first. And if it sounds to good to be true, that's probably because it is...

The "Citizen Kane of Voiceover Recording Sessions Gone Wrong;" Orson Welles stars in "Frozen Peas"

Every voice actor has heard about this infamous voiceover session from hell, but if you've never had a chance to actually listen to it, it's definitely worth your four minutes. (Btw, what no one ever talks about is that while Orson Welles' was without a doubt a ginourmous, pompous, drunken, unprofessional @$$ during this session, he was absolutely right about the crappy direction he'd been given.)
