Ran across this recent thought-provoking post from voice actor/blogger, Peter K. O’Connell, in which explains his objections to the the 'pay to play' voice over business models like Voices.com and Voice 1-2-3. His arguments are fair, well-reasoned, and never-mean spirited; and the points he raises, worthy of consideration. Even if you disagree with him, it will give you something to think about...
Very clever and seamlessly done. Good voiceover and really fun, especially if you you're a fan of British humor... Watch for the MJ tribute towards the end. Very, very funny.

Informative, factual blog post where the author actually took the time to do some fact-checking. Shorter Version: For those considering investing in ISDN equipment...ISDN is an old technology that will eventually be replaced by IP digital technology, but the new technology hasn't been perfected yet and is still a few years away.
RT @tjkeenan: Here's a new, cool tool for #voiceover folks that turns your iPhone or iPad into an audition machine on the go. Inside VO's comment: I have no idea how good the audio quality is, but for $60, it might be worth checking into. Same company also sells the iKlip Universal microphone stand adapter for iPad that you can use to safely attach your iPad to any mic stand anywhere which also looks very cool. The mind boggles at the possibilities...

Voice actor/software developer, Corey Snow, has put together a well laid-out, detailed step-by-step tutorial on how to go about setting up a phone patch inexpensively from your home computer using Skype. He also provides recommendations on equipment. While not for technical nooBs, if you have a moderate-level of knowledge of how the equipment in your home studio works---what the components are and what plugs into what---and are able to follow directions, you should be able to get your home phone patch up and running. A big shout out to Corey who clearly put much time and effort into putting this tutorial together.
IMHO the best voiceover of this years' Superbowl. I actually forgot I was listening to two actors. Brilliant writing + acting. Side note: With 119.6 viewers, this ad now holds the title of "most viewed ad in history."(TRANSCRIPT BELOW)

Good insights from voice actor/blogger Sylvie Pamphile re: rejection. She correctly points out that rejection is a built-in, unavoidable part of VO. In other words, the sooner you recognize that you are "powerless" over rejection, and learn to stop taking it personally, brush it off and keep going, the better off you'll be.
Good, common-sense advice. This blogger is absolutely right: aspiring voice actors need to be aware that there are a lot of scams perpetrated on the internet. Be very suspicious of anyone who claims to hold the "secret to voice acting success," or can teach you "everything you need to know" in one book, telecourse or seminar. The truth is that there is no big "secret;" the formula for success is very well-known---time, hard work, patience, good training, commitment, passion, courage---and even with all that, there are still no guarantees. As with anything else, use plain common sense before you buy; do your research and check things out first. And if it sounds to good to be true, that's probably because it is...
The organiser of the 5th Seiyu (voice acting) Awards announced the winners of the Takahashi Kazue Award, Kids & Family Award, Synergy Award and Overseas Fans Choice Award. InsideVO Comment: Worth watching even if you don't speak the language. You'll still get that these voice actors are tremendously talented with great range - the language of emotions is universal, and you can pretty easily decipher what is going on from the context.
In his typical non-BS way, the brilliant Charlie Adler, cuts right to the chase and demonstrates the differences between various acting styles hillariously in 28 seconds. His main point: All acting, no matter the style, must be based in TRUTH. H/T to voice actor and FOIV (Friend of VoiceoverInsder), Jim Edgar, for calling this one to our attention.
Every voice actor has heard about this infamous voiceover session from hell, but if you've never had a chance to actually listen to it, it's definitely worth your four minutes. (Btw, what no one ever talks about is that while Orson Welles' was without a doubt a ginourmous, pompous, drunken, unprofessional @$$ during this session, he was absolutely right about the crappy direction he'd been given.)
