Vertical search is a powerful way to focus your intent on topics (like health and shopping) or types of content (like images and videos). But even the most ambitious meta-search engine is limited to a few hundred different topics, built and organized by staff members. Nuggety removes these limitations and allows anyone to create a new search vertical for any topic. This is possible because Nuggety considers every website a potential search engine. Google Scholar is among the best scholarly search engines online yet only a few select of educators know its secrets.As a rule of thumb that applies to all Google products, the effective use of any service from Google s can only be achieved through mastering its deep and hidden features. We have seen in the previous post how filtering a Google search using the keyword " digital literacy " reduced the generated results from 430.000.000 to 90.000.000 which eliminated so much of junk information that could cost you a lot of time going through it. I believe information literacy is a skill that every teacher should master and teach his/her students about. In this regard and to help teachers leverage the potential of Google services in their teaching , Educational Technology and Mobile Learning has recently started out a series of illustrative guides that addresse those particular things that educators need to know in order to better manipulate their " Googling" experience.

A survey of Advanced Placement and National Writing Project teachers finds that teens’ research habits are changing in the digital age
Key points:-
Virtually all (99%) AP and NWP teachers in this study agree with the notion that “the internet enables students to access a wider range of resources than would otherwise be available,” and 65% agree that “the internet makes today’s students more self-sufficient researchers.”
At the same time, 76% of teachers surveyed “strongly agree” with the assertion that internet search engines have conditioned students to expect to be able to find information quickly and easily.
Large majorities also agree with the notion that the amount of information available online today is overwhelming to most students (83%) and that today’s digital technologies discourage students from using a wide range of sources when conducting research (71%).
Fewer teachers, but still a majority of this sample (60%), agree with the assertion that today’s technologies make it harder for students to find credible sources of information.
Given these concerns, it is not surprising that 47% of these teachers strongly agree and another 44% somewhat believe that courses and content focusing on digital literacy should be incorporated into every school’s curriculum.

If knowledge is the key, where is the information? And how does one know to seek and evaluate what one finds? B.G. (Before Google), learners often had to sit in libraries to work together on projects. Today projects can be carried out across continents, with students collaborating and making decisions either in real-time or asynchronously. Learners will often turn to Google and Wikipedia as sources of information, but what if there were other sources which could also provide information?
