I am assisting owners with selling a home that had a renovation without a permit. They converted their garage to a master bedroom. It’s a “cash only” sale because a lender’s appraiser would check the county to see if a permit was pulled and see there was no permit pulled. No permit, no financing! Yes it’s fixable but it requires time, effort and funds to remedy. The problem, we lose the potential buyers who require financing to purchase. Cash only buyers have a wide selection in this now buyer’s market. The moral of the story, do not do a remodel or renovate without pulling a permit.
