CD: The reasons for spatial variations between countries in selected indicators of human wellbeing (ACHGK077)

The TomTom Traffic Index is based on 19 trillion data points collected over nine years from 390 cities, according to the Dutch company. Each city's congestion level was given a percentage score out of 100, with levels ranging from 66% in the most congested cities to 9% in the least. TomTom defined the congestion level as the "increase in overall traffic times when compared to a free flow situation (an uncongested situation)." Ralf-Peter Schaefer, VP TomTom Traffic, said in a statement that the traffic index is "designed to help drivers, cities and transport planners to understand traffic congestion and, most importantly, how to reduce it."

Ebola is an infectious disease, which has become a pandemic crisis causing around 5000 deaths in 2014, with a 50% mortality rate among those who have contracted the virus.

The outbreak in West Africa was first reported in March 2014, and every natural case of Ebola has been in Sub-Saharan Africa with Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea at the epicentre of the crisis.

This key stage 3-5 resource, produced by GA Consultant and Secondary Phase Committee Co-Chair Stephen Schwab, includes classroom activities and teaching ideas, and explores geographical facts, concepts and the impact the virus has had on the communities affected.

This article depicts various population pyramids in developing, as well as developed countries. These pyramids show trends from the past, as well as predictions for the future (2050). With population pyramids, it is easy to understand how populations shift, as well as observe different trends on populations. I really like studying the information given to us by population pyramids, so this article is very important to me. This whole thing relates to historical trends and projections for the future.

China plans a city the size of New England that'll be home to 130 million

China plans a city the size of New England that'll be home to 130 million | GTAV AC:G Y10 - Geographies of human wellbeing | Scoop.it

China's rulers are planning for the world's biggest megacity the size of New England, with an estimated population of 130 million.

Geography Teachers' Association of Victoria Inc. (GTAV)'s insight:

CD: The human-induced environmental changes that challenge sustainability

TIANJIN, China — China's rulers are planning a megacity that would be home to 130 million people and cover an area the size of New England. Sitting on the northeast coast of China, Jing-Jin-Ji — which stands for "Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei" — is a central plank of the country's economic development plan over the next century. ““All eyes are on the Jing-Jin-Ji region as a testing ground for innovative solutions”” The sheer numbers are startling. In November, the government approved $36 billion to build 700 miles of rail within three years. Residents of bedroom communities just outside Beijing's city limits, who now spend five to six hours a day on their commutes, are expected to be the main beneficiaries of a new transportation system serving the megalopolis. In the longer term, 24 intercity railways are planned for completion by 2050 — eight alone by 2020. The goal is a "one-hour commuting circle" across the area, according to the government. "The biggest change is in transportation," Zhang Zhongmin, a humanities professor and environmental campaigner based in Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei, told NBC News. "It used to take almost one day to travel from Hebei to Beijing, but now it's only a few hours."
