It is truly a sad day for all of America. When you look at 3 dead and 100+ wounded, those numbers are lying. There are 1,000's that are suffering. They are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD. When experiencing a horrific situation like the one our nation just suffered, grief and bereavement can set in quickly, leaving us depressed and sad. Some might not be able to get the events out of their heads. If you know someone suffering like this please suggest to them they seek out grief counseling. American Institute Health Care Professionals's insight:
Excellent Article! The author is correct, there is little "talk" around end of life issues. We would think that with the Patient Self-Determination act in place..long ago, that we would have transcended our fears of discussing death and dying with patients. We have a long way to go. American Institute Health Care Professionals's insight:
The final days of life are critical for the needs of the dying. Where to die, what spiritual preparation and how to say goodbye. Margaret Thatcher's death is all over the news today. When a prominent public figure passes away it can often lead to the rememberance of our own grief. The news of a funeral service, etc. can stir up emotions of grief within us. When this happens it is a good idea to take some time to reflect on the memories and if need be to talk openly about your feelings to a friend. Verbalization of feelings can be very healing. American Institute Health Care Professionals's insight:
The loss of a pet can bring on devastating grief for owners. I have had many people over the years relate that the death of their pet or pets was as tragic for them as when they lost a loved one, such as a relative. Pet loss is often disenfranchised. People generally do not offer much grief support when a pet dies. But, things are starting to change. The American Academy of Grief Counseling has an entire curriculum and certification program for Pet Loss Grief. If you are interested you can review the program here: pet loss grief |
A video that helps one answer the hard questions of whether to put one's pet down or not. It is a tough and painful decision that pet grief counselors can help the grieving with.
