The Board of Directors of the National Greyhound Association (NGA) took special action Nov. 7, banning kennel operator Saul J. Mays from any further involvement with NGA-registered greyhounds. The Board also took action prohibiting any NGA member from conducting greyhound business with Mays. The lifetime ban is the most serious penalty available under NGA rules.

ervice Dogs 4 Serviceman (SD4SM) is an organization that donates the retired racing greyhounds as fully trained service dogs to service men and women in need. Awesome Greyhound Adoptions (AGA) is the exclusive source of dogs for this program, participating in the selection of the dogs from those ready to retire. AGA has the dog thoroughly vetted (teeth cleaned, spay or neuter, titers done, microchipped all shots and any treatment for worms or other condition present) and fosters them for a time until the HERO program is able to take them in for training.

When it opened 20 years ago Saturday, Gulf Greyhound Park drew 8,000 customers who wagered $870,000. A few days later, what was then the largest greyhound track in the world had a record-setting 11,653 customers, and a month later, customers wagered about $1 million in one day.

After the completion of the third round on Saturday November 3, an impressive group of eight has kept their dreams alive for the $20,000 Texas Round Up Sprint Championship.

SH Avatar (Hardison Kennel), who started November by winning the $500,000 Iowa Breeders Classic at Bluffs Run, did plenty of damage in October. The May 13, 2010 71-pounder out of Kiowa Mon Manny-Tom S Caterwaul won five of six starts in October. He won by an average of over five lengths. The only miss with a sixth in the IBC semifinals, a trip that was filled with trouble.

Dubuque Greyhound Park at Mystique completed its 28th season of live greyhound racing Sunday Matinee, October 28th. With fifteen races that included four exciting stakes races along with a plaque presentations to the 2012 Greyhound and Trainer of the Year.

Round one of the $20,000 Fall Juvenile was held Saturday night October 27 at Derby Lane. Red Oak Racing burned the favorite in the first heat of the night and repeated the feat in the final heat of the night. Alex Hall trains the kennel that saw Flying Soriano (Flying Penske x Flying Snap Off) upset the favorite Kiowa Mad Hatter (Raines) in race four. Hall’s second entry SE’s Chick Click scored third place points in race six. Flying Observer (Flying Penske x Flying Witness) won the tenth race and clocked a 30.66 in her upset over KB’s Epic Win (Holland) giving Hall two wins in the series.

In conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, four Delaware North racetracks are taking part in Run for the Cure. This week at DNC's three dog tracks – Daytona, Southland and Wheeling Island – the No. 1 greyhound in each race will be wearing a pink blanket. At Finger Lakes, the jockey riding the No. 1 thoroughbred will wear a pink ribbon.
