The trainers at Derby Lane are wrapping up their selections for next week’s start of the 54th annual Distance Classic. Wednesday night the Tom Artzer trained LK’s Sniper (Pat C Clement x Hush Darling) took out his impressive rivals over the 660-yard course. The 75-pounder halted the hat trick hopes for WW’s Cream Puff (Red Oak) and Dusty Outback (D’Arcy) when he rushed from fifth to first to win the race by three lengths. Sniper paid $25.80 for the upset. Sniper’s victory makes one question if he could be the “dark horse” in the series for the new Lashmet kennel.
