The Fostex brand has always been known for their orthodynamic T20RP, T40RP, and T50RP headphones. But this time, Hiroaki at Fostex Japan sent me a dynamic driver headphone that is the successor of the dynamic driver Fostex T-7.

The HP-A3 is the entry level desktop USB DAC and headphone amplifier from Fostex. At £300 it's not quite their cheapest DAC, that's covered by the £65 PC-100USB model. This will go nicely with their more reasonably priced headphones, but I was expecting to see something in between the two. Perhaps something around half the price of the A3, like Arcam's rPAC. Fostex seem content being on either side of this price bracket for now, but I wouldn't be surprised if they cover this price point soon.

The HP-A8 is a sleek black monolith weighing nearly 4Kg. It's chassis is lavishly garnished by a variety of high quality materials, dials and connections. The striking, minimalist design is only slightly diminished by the model number, but it's engineered with a precision that easily justifies it's price tag.
