If you are looking for free and open source materials one great place to check out periodically is Open Culture. Richard Bryne shared that "they launched a new collection of more than 200 free video lessons, apps, ebooks, and website for K-12students and teachers...which includes...items that were new to me...like this Shakespeare app and this Google Earth for science teacher resource." I've only used eduCanon, which is a good tool, but I couldn't get the embed code to work in our Sakai LMS. It only requires a paid version to use short answer questions.

I've not heard of some of these tools. I'd like to create more videos so I'll have to try these out.

Knowmia for Teachers – Add your own lessons (and you may create lessons on the site), upload lessons, add lessons from YouTube or Vimeo, and share. A lesson planning and recording tools is available for the iPad. Using this tool you may bring in resources from multiple sources, organize them, and create a video lesson on any subject. Coming soon is MyKnowmia, a tool to help you flip your class. Students and parents may also create accounts and access materials.

Welcome to another post that is dedicated to highlighting an amazing site providing an awesome collection of resources to educators. The site entitled “MIT BLOSSOMS” is so much more... "BLOSSOMS video lessons have the ability to enrich students’ learning experiences in the high school classroom and in some cases even the middle school. This incredible Video Library contains over 50 math and science lessons, all freely available to teachers as streaming video, Internet downloads, DVDs and videotapes. You will find that the lessons really are a complete resource including video segments, a teacher’s guide, downloadable hand-outs, plus a list of incredible online resources relevant to the topic."

Mocomi is a website geared to elementary and middle school students. Along with videos they have a wide variety of activities in areas including the arts, civics, culture, English, environment, geography, history, science, and math. They also have an online magazine with a specific theme. The current one is called Under Water, and you can access 19 additional magazines online.
This might be a site you use with students, or one that they might explore during free time. Richard Byrne suggests that the videos "are a model of animated informational videos" and students in middle school and high school "could follow the model to create their own short videos to demonstrate their understanding of a topic."
