Comic books have been around for some time but not necessarily used in schools. Yet if you walk into most school libraries you will find students reading graphic novels or graphic textbooks. This post explores reasons to include comic books/graphic novels as tools for your students. Links are provided to four resources that provide you with great materials:

There are many great graphic novels available for students that will teach them content. For more information on utilizing them in the class check out and the resources listed above. They contain a variety of resources including access to free lesson plans and materials.

Coming across the reluctant reader in the classroom in not uncommon. This is a link to a excerpt from a graduate thesis about using graphic novels and comics to teach struggling male readers. I tried teaching graphic novels in my own classroom this spring, and even though I thought it went quite well, I still have to become a bit more acquainted and comfortable with the genre. I will most definitely give it another try this year!
I find inspiration to do so in Michael Storm´s point that "we need to teach young boys that literacy still is the ultimate adventure, and they too have the chance to be the hero".
