Ideas for supporting Teacher Effectiveness with Technology

Ideas for supporting Teacher Effectiveness with Technology | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

"Technology provides teachers with a great way to provide evidence with artifacts of their effective practice. Across the country this has been a priority for schools that are incorporating a teacher evaluation based on the Danielson Framework. The model contains various components organized into the following four domains."

Beth Dichter's insight:

As teachers in many communities in the U.S. are being evaluated using new tools this post provides guidance on how technology may be used in the area of Instruction and an additional three posts are available on the site that address how technology may be used in Planning and Preparation, The Classroom Environment and Professional Responsibilities. All are based on the Danielson Framework (and a link to this is available).

Each of the post looks at the domain and contains a Prezi which ideas, resources, videos and more. Consider sharing these resources with faculty at your school.

Watch the Prezi's and see how to share. However, remember, it is a tool, technology is not the be all an end all, although it is a wonderful tool.

What Is the Purpose of Education? - ASCD Education Update

What Is the Purpose of Education? - ASCD Education Update | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

What is the purpose of education?

"In the United States, historically, the purpose of education has evolved according to the needs of society. Education's primary purpose has ranged from instructing youth in religious doctrine, to preparing them to live in a democracy, to assimilating immigrants into mainstream society, to preparing workers for the industrialized 20th century workplace.
And now, as educators prepare young people for their futures in a world that is rapidly changing, what is the goal? To create adults who can compete in a global economy? To create lifelong learners? To create emotionally healthy adults who can engage in meaningful relationships?"

This article looks at this issue from a variety of viewpoints, and provides historical look from 1934 to 1991. An interesting read that may raise more questions than it anwer.

Principles of Instruction - Research Based Strategies All Teachers Should Know.pdf

"This article presents 10 research-based principles of instruction, along with suggestions for classroom practice. These principles come from three sources: (a) research in cognitive science, (b) research on master teachers, and (c) research on cognitive supports…The fact that the instructional ideas from three different sources supplement and complement each others gives us faith in the validity of these findings."

Although these ideas may not be new they are discussed in detail, potentially providing some new insights:

* Begin each lesson with a short review of previous learning,
* Present new material in small steps with student practice after each step,
* Ask a large number of questions and check the response of all students,
* Provide models,
* Guide student practice,
* Check for student understanding,
* Obtain a high success rate,
* Provide scaffolds for difficult tasks,
* Require and monitor independent practice,
* Engage students in weekly and monthly review.
