Life in a 21st-Century English Class | MindShift | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

...my classroom is a place where my students spend time piecing together what they have learned, critically evaluating its larger purpose, and reflecting on their own learning. It also means my students don’t acquire knowledge just for the sake of acquiring it. They need to do something with it — that’s where “project-based” comes into play.

Welcome to the Open Course Library of the Washington State colleges. This initiative aims to develop and openly share curriculum resources for 81 high enrolling college courses, to lower textbooks costs, and to raise student completion rates.

There are many books in progress but a couple of dozen already on line. These are for community college courses, but many would be useful for high school.

To view all courses, enter the WashingtonOnline (WAOL) system with the guest account below:

New Media Literacies

New Media Literacies | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

Our Space is a set of curricular materials designed to encourage high school students to reflect on the ethical dimensions of their participation in new media environments. Through role-playing activities and reflective exercises, students are asked to consider the ethical responsibilities of other people, and whether and how they behave ethically themselves online. These issues are raised in relation to five core themes that are highly relevant online: identity, privacy, authorship and ownership, credibility, and participation.
