Pikes Peak or Bust! That’s what the pioneers said as they headed west to the Rocky Mountains. The Falkner/Livingston Akrapovic team is in California though, so we’re actually heading east towards Pikes Peak, but still it’s a great motto for the team as we pack up and head out for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. - See more at: http://spidergrips.com/spiderg/2013/06/pikes-peak-or-bust/#sthash.tQbxJGd0.dpuf
Best of luck to our favorite Pikes Peak Team!

Davisville Village area resident Chris Willenberg is hopping on his trusty motorcycle and taking an international journey to help battle diabetes.
Willenberg grew up in a family where diabetes is frighteningly prevalent. On July 1, he will embark on a trip from Toronto to Los Angeles on his 2001 Ducati 996 to raise awareness of the disease and collect funds for the Canadian Diabetes Association.
“There are a lot of causes out there to pick and choose from, but my sister’s a type 1 diabetic and has been for 38 years, since age four,” he said.
“Both my parents are type 2 diabetics and I have aunts and uncles who have diabetes as well.”

The 2009 World Superbike champion believes the California clash on July 21 might be too soon to return from a serious right shoulder injury he sustained in a rain-hit Sepang race last October.
Spies is undertaking an intensive rehab regime in America and the 28-year-old is hoping he can ride his Ignite Ducati Desmosedici in Indianapolis in mid-August.

Having your bike stolen sucks big time. But according to latest statistics you’re more likely to lose your motorcycle if it’s a Honda on a Monday or a Tuesday in California than anywhere else in the U.S.

Ducati 749/999 was never a pretty bike. It was an amazing piece of machinery that brought Ducati multiple Superbike Championship, but never got so popular as the 916/996/998 that replaced. It had that special thing about it that many Ducatisti liked but many more hated. Arete Americana (Bryan Petersen) / NJ / USA rolled up their sleeves, got in touch with Radical Ducati from Spain and created one of the most beautiful custom sport bikes in the world, if not the most beautiful custom Carbon Ducati 999.
Surprising how up to date this treatment makes this 999

Buenos Aires-born designer Miguel Angel Galluzzi was 33 years old when he created the Ducati Monster, one of the most influential motorcycles of the 20th century. A parts-bin special based on the 900 Supersport (another Galluzzi design) but stripped down to the bare essentials, the Monster quickly became Ducati’s best-selling model and single-handedly created the modern “naked bike” category. Galluzzi, a 1986 graduate of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA, worked for Cagiva (then Ducati’s parent company) for 17 years before joining Aprilia as Styling Director in 2006, where he was responsible for most modern Aprilias, including the RSV4 superbike. Galluzzi, now based in Pasadena where he leads Aprilia’s new Advanced Design Center, has recently turned his attention to Moto Guzzi. On the 20th anniversary of the Monster’s debut, we caught up with the designer to ask his thoughts on the past and future of motorcycle design.

Miguel Galluzzi might not be penning for Ducati anymore but he's a long time industry insider and his thoughts on this subject are worth a read...

Above is the Holy City's ungang of Ducati-riding chefs, as presented to the world by The Local Palate and Bon Appetit. It's Mike Lata of FIG/The Ordinary, hot chefJohn Ondo of Lana, Nico Romo from King Street's Fishand Matt McIntosh of EVO in North Charleston, and they like to ride fast and, sometimes, together.
"The camaraderie is similar to the kitchen," McIntosh told The Local Palate. Fingers crossed they're Charleston's next reality show.

Ducati loses another man. After Preziosi and Del Torchio, from Le Mans – where in these days the 24 Hours has taken place - the news of Wolfgang Dürheimer’s dismissal by Audi arrive. The German manager wasn’t widely known by the motorbikes audience, but in recent months he had been included in the directors board of Borgo Panigale , together with the Italian Luca de Meo, Audi sales and marketing manager.

In October of last year, we told you about how Ducati Motor Holding was directly taking over its operations in Brazil, and was forming a subsidiary in the South American country. Nine months later now, Ducati do Brasil is officially open for business, and the company’s first showroom floor is in the Avenida Faria Lima of São Paulo.
Helping Ducati side-step the onerous tariffs that come with the Brazil market, the Italian company is continuing its relationship with DAFRA, which runs a complete knock-down (CKD) assembly plant in Manaus, and buildsDiavel and Monster 796 motorcycles on Ducati’s behalf.

When he’s not building the world’s most desirable Ducati road bikes, Walt Siegl likes to head for the racetrack on his 916 or 1098. But he’s a hard rider, and his two regular mounts are now looking a little battered.

What's most interesting here is Ducati might be interested in Marc VDS as a satellite team (so a package team and rider possibility?)

CW's cruiser comparison featuring the Ducati Diavel Dark vs. Moto Guzzi California 1400 Custom.
All roads lead to Rome, or so the saying goes. Once literal (all roads in the ancient Empire actually did lead to Rome), the expression in popular culture reminds us that different paths can lead to a common goal. Just like the new Ducati Diavel Dark and Moto Guzzi California 1400 Custom. Two iconic Italian manufacturers, two unique power cruisers, one definitive result: Badassery.
Despite the obvious apple-to-orange aesthetics, these two muscle bikes share more than bravado and Italian birthrights. Each offers a sophisticated ride-by-wire injection system with three ignition mapping modes, traction control and world-class Brembo brakes with ABS. And yes, they both use sizable Twins for propulsion, though each mill is situated in a distinctive manner.

Pierobon, a Bologna-based brand that has been creating motorcycle frames since 1952, has released some info on its latest creation, the F042 hstreet.
Pierobon takes the same chassis technology it uses with MotoGP and World Superbike teams, and brings it to the street. Powering the F042 is Ducati 1100EVO engine, the same 95-horsewpower L-Twin found in the Monster 1100EVO.
The rest is all dreamy Italian parts, including Termignoni exhaust parts, Brembo brakes and Marchesini wheels.
Speaking of the F042 hstreet, Pierobon says: “The driving position is made more comfortable by the handlebars raised and aligned with the forks. Its natural habitat is the mountain roads where you can savor the stability and the accuracy in the curves.”
For more on Pierobon, check out the company’s website at pierobonframes.com/en/

Andrea Dovizioso admits Ducati Team is in need of significant changes in order to regain its competitiveness at the front of the field.
After teammate Nicky Hayden crashed out of Sunday’s Catalan Grand Prix while running fifth, Dovizioso went on to finish seventh despite much attrition in front of him; he was also overtaken by Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Bradley Smith.
“For sure, it was difficult for everybody, but for the Ducati riders it was really difficult to manage – especially the last six laps,” the Italian told motogp.com.
“Our pace in the race was not good and this just confirms the situation we have. We have to work really hard and make a big change for the future – it’s not this chassis or the new chassis we will try (in Monday’s test). We have already tried and the difference is very small. It is not really what we need to reduce the gap to the faster bike, so we have to work really hard.”

There is also an article HERE about the challenges the tires presented to everybody which is really interesting, more so we think, than the race itself was...
