Reportedly, Ben Spies' Twitter account had a post yesterday which now has eyebrows fully raised in the MotoGP paddock.
Spies underwent surgery on both of his shoulders yesterday and is expected to be off the bike for an additional eight to ten weeks.
At one point, presumably before the surgery, Spies' Twitter account had a message which read Saw the doc today. not great. Off to surgery tomorrow! Bet Carlo is so excited he wont remember to wipe the powder off his nose.

Ducati fans found plenty to do at Indy this year. Between the Ducati Indy open house, DOC dinner and bike show, Euro bike night, flat track races, motorcycle scene downtown and red snake ride, the track action, parking lot and grandstand, not to mention the biggest grandest Ducati store ever and the Ducati basecamp hotel, well, the best deal in MotoGP worldwide lived up to it’s billing. And contrary to the rampant rumors, it’s on for next year again.

We had a plan we would move back to our hometown where we had a lot of land but that didn’t happen.Over the years, we would come back to Australia every now and then and go up to the Gold Coast for a week or two and took a liking to the place. Looked into it a bit and saw how good the schools were for our kids and how many more opportunities there were. We live on a great spot on the river about 70 kilometers south of Brisbane, but I miss my land, I must say.
Time is really flying. My oldest boy Mitchell is 18 and Abbey is 16; they missed a bit because I’d been caught up in my career overseas. The youngest, Ollie, is 9 and does some karting, biking and had his first flat-track last week. If anyone is going to have a go at it, he will.

Pramac Ducati MotoGP rider hopes to “get back to racing this season.”
Pramac Racing Ducati MotoGP rider Ben Spies underwent surgery Thursday morning at North Central Surgical Hospital in Dallas, Texas, to fix a Grade 5 acromioclavicular separation of his left shoulder. In addition, scar tissue was removed from Spies’ right shoulder, which was reconstructed last October.
According to Spies’ mother, Mary, the two-hour operation was performed by Dr. Daniel Cooper, head physician for the Dallas Cowboys football team, and a shoulder specialist. The 29-year-old Spies is expected to spend one night in the hospital.

“A month ago I didn't know I would have this many options - some good options too” - Nicky Hayden..
Nicky Hayden, who initially seemed set to leave MotoGP for WSBK, now appears to be the main target for teams seeking to run the new range of Honda or Yamaha privateer MotoGP machines in 2014.
Speaking at Brno on Thursday the former world champion, who has lost his factory Ducati ride to Cal Crutchlow, was unable to name his future destination - but did reveal he has been surprised by the 'exciting' options available.
"I really can't [tell you anything about 2014]. Even I don't know yet. I'm not just giving you a line," began Hayden.
"It does look exciting actually. A month ago I didn't know I would have this many options - some good options too. Some that are quite exciting, that have really got me looking forward to the future.

As a Spies fan going back to AMA it's really tough to watch him get sidetracked like this. I'd say get well soon but if I only have one wish for him it would be that he have a big pile of really good luck. Talent, toughness and physical fitness he has in spades. It's bad luck and Bridgestones that are doing him in......

Luke “Duke” Emmons and Aaron Twite have been battling for five episodes in Ducati’s Game of Hype. We checked in with the XDL Champion to get the behind the scenes take on filming the series.
StuntBums: How long did the filming take – and which was the most CHALLENGING challenge and why?
Luke: Once we got to LA we had to nail down the areas to ride. The only people that knew what could be done at a possible film scene are Aaron and I. Some of the potential areas available would have looked really cool, but the surfaces were either too far gone or polished etc. Also we had to invent 14 tricks that we could do with props and we hadn't been on the bikes yet. Those issues turned out to be tiddlywinks compared to dealing with Aaron’s shenanigans. All in all these challenges dragged the whole trip out to about ten days.

With all of the prototype seats occupied for 2014 - barring a contractual bust up between Ducati and Ben Spies, which is only an expensive theoretical possibility at the moment - battle has commenced for the rest of the MotoGP seats regarded as being most competitive. While the factory bikes - the bikes in the factory and satellite teams being raced as MSMA entries - are all taken, the privateer machines - using Dorna spec ECU software and extra fuel - are still mostly up for grabs.

This is what I heard all weekend so I have reason to believe this is correct. I still don't grasp why the lure of the mid GP paddock would be stronger than the potential of a long happy career as a brand ambassador with Ducati as a SBK rider and eventual "elder statesman". The depth of his Ducati fan base is fairly bottomless, building a new one at Yamaha or rebuilding one at Honda will be difficult. I suspect he's going to miss all that love. Of course I'm not exactly unbiased.....

American Ben Spies, who was making a long-awaited return to MotoGP racing at this weekend’s Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix, has ruled himself out of the Indy race due to suffering a grade-three separation of his left shoulder after crashing in Turn Four during the Saturday morning practice. Spies’ right shoulder—which forced him to miss three months of the season due to damage suffered in a crash at Sepang last year that required surgery—was apparently uninjured. Although he will see doctors on Monday to determine his recovery period, the severity of the separation of his left shoulder will likely mean the Texan will be out of action for at least three-four weeks at a minimum
