Ducati Alstare rider Carlos Checa's World Superbike weekend has come to an abrupt end. A huge crash in free practice at the Istanbul Park track earlier this morning means he has been ruled out...
The Spaniard had a nasty highside on turn 2, and was taken to the Clinica Mobile as a result, where doctors diagnosed a contusion to the upper thorax as well as a possible fracture of the left scaphoid. Unfortunately Checa will be unable to continue this weekend; further medical tests are required in order to establish when he will be able to return to the track.
Checa’s team-mate Ayrton Badovini also crashed in free practice and had to miss the opening qualifying session this afternoon. But just ten minutes from the end of the first session he too crashed, losing the front at Turn 12.

Ducati Motor Holding SpA, the motorbike maker owned by Volkswagen AG (VOW), will roll out four new motorcycles next year to attract more high-end buyers.
The new bikes will be “premium products as we’re not looking for low cost and low capacity motorcycles,” Chief Executive Officer Claudio Domenicali said in an interview at the company’s headquarters in Bologna, Italy. “We are targeting a good but sustainable growth.”
The new offerings from Ducati, whose bikes are owned by actors Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, will include the 899 Panigale, which goes on sale in the U.S. in November with a starting price of $14,995. The new 148-horsepower superbike was unveiled at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt this week. Two additional new models, which “will share the sport value of the brand,” will be shown in Milan in November, the CEO said.

Italian media are reporting this afternoon that discussions are underway between Ducati Corse--Ducati's race arm--and American Ben Spies which may see the former WSBK champion and GP winner not return to MotoGP in 2013. It is said that Spies' doctors have recommended that he not race again in 2013 because of shoulder injuries and also injuries to his hand/wrist suffered in his Indy crash.
Reportedly Ducati is evaluating this information with their own doctors.

“I know that once you leave MotoGP you don't normally come back” – Nicky Hayden.
Nicky Hayden's future continues to be at the centre of MotoGP paddock speculation.

After Ducati and Husqavarna, anothe Italian manufacturer has gone into the hands of a foreigner buyer, this time its the turn of Bimota.
The manufacturer whose name was based on its founders, Bianchi, Morri and Tamburini celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, and been bought by a Swiss group - the name of the company has yet to be revealed - and apparently the owner has a passion for motorcycles.
For the moment it seems that Bimota will remain in Italy (Rimini), with just fresh capital flowing into the company’s coffers, and that the marque will continue their longtime collaboration with Ducati and BMW for their engines.

We watch this with interest. Bimota is a brand that has a long history of it's fortunes tied tightly to Ducati.

The eni FIM Superbike World Championship will be racing this weekend, for the first time ever, at the Intercity Istanbul Park. Located in the Asian side of the largest city in Turkey, the track is 5,340 m long, with 8 left handers, 6 right turns and runs in anti-clockwise direction.
New leader after the German Round Tom Sykes (Kawasaki) is the only rider in the top-5 of the standings who hasn’t raced before on the Turkish track, meaning he has to fill the gap of knowledge during the weekend, while trying to find the best set-up for his ZX-10R. Main title contender Sylvain Guintoli (Aprilia), who is only one point behind the Brit, is still recuperating from the shoulder injury that has been bothering him since the second half of July.

“When Argentina and Brazil are knocking on the door and Russia might be interested you can't just say that we have enough races” - Herve Poncharal, IRTA..
With the draft 2014 MotoGP race schedule set to be released in the coming weeks there has been much speculation about how the expected return of the Brazilian and Argentinean Grands Prix will fall into place on the calendar.
At present the MotoGP calendar consists of 18 races, which could rise to 20 given the addition of the South American rounds and that no existing event is so far confirmed as losing its place.

A B.C. SUPREME Court judge has refused the province's attempt to seize ownership of a 2008 Ducati motorcycle clocked at more than 200 kilometres per hour in a 60 kph zone.
I have to say that the logic used by the court is quite unexpected. Not to mention refreshing...

Accepted stats claim that there are roughly 180,000 registered charities and about 60,000 social enterprises across the UK. Odds are that as you read this blog post, some enterprising and socially minded individual is busy registering a new charity or social enterprise. While many of these budding social entrepreneurs will boldly go where many others have gone before, due to a mix of access and time, these two groups, the novice and the experienced, don't always have the opportunity to meet and trade war stories.
That's where this blog comes in. Over the next few months, I'll talk to charity and social enterprise leaders about their experiences, lessons, and failures so that they can provide nuggets of insight that may help and, dare I say, inspire the next generation.
And I've got quite the leader for my inaugural interview. There are few social entrepreneurs as inspiring (or successful) as Andrea Coleman, CEO and Co-Founder ofRiders of Health: a social enterprise that manages and maintains health vehicles to transform health care for almost 14 million people in seven countries in Africa.

Over 1000 fans shared the excitement of last weekend’s MotoGP from the exclusive Ducati Grandstand at Silverstone circuit. For 2014, due to public demand Ducati UK will more than double the number of seats available from 1055 to 2310. The Luffield B Ducati Grandstand was the place to be as Ducati fans found themselves in prime position to see the best of the action at Silverstone. The covered Luffield B Grandstand provided spectators with a view of the bikes thundering down the Wellington Straight into the braking zone for Brooklands Corner before negotiating Luffield. The Luffield complex gave the spectators not only a fantastic view of all the significant action of the race but also produced an amazing atmosphere. - See more at: http://superbike-news.co.uk/wordpress/index.php/Motorcycle-News/ducati-grandstand-silverstone-motogp-double-size-2014#sthash.44OkSLdB.dpuf

It’s no secret that I love my long-term Multistrada, but taking this bike to the track was yet another reason that it keeps on impressing me. Do I look ridiculous in pictures? Yes. Did people look at me funny at tech inspection? Yes. But, did I pass two 600cc supersport bikes on the front straight and a Panigale in the corners? Also yes.
First things first, I think it looks mean in “race” trim! The angular lights all taped up looked sharp, and stripping off all of the street do-dads lets the Multi show its sleek lines. Adding a slip-on exhaust would have really made it look purposeful, but my goal with the Multistrada long-term assignment has always been simplicity.

Among the brand names that will get an enthusiast’s motor revving are Ducati and Porsche. And now you can share those brands with your children — or grandchildren — long before they’re actually old enough to drive.
If you’re into two wheels, you know Ducati as the iconic Italian motorcycle brand. You likely also know Nicky Hayden as the former AMA Superbike champion who in 2006 won the MotoGP world championship. Hayden has been a Ducati factory racer since 2009 and his name and racing number plate are on the Special Edition Nicky Hayden Ducati Corse Strider.
