Selon la dernière évaluation géospatiale de l'Organisation des Nations unies pour l'alimentation et l'agriculture, en collaboration avec le centre satellitaire des Nations unies, seulement 4,6% des terres agricoles de Gaza sont encore cultivables, soit 688 hectares. 80,8% de ces dernières sont endommagées, 77,8% sont inaccessibles, et ce, à cause des restrictions de l'armée ou des bombardements israéliens incessants. Se pose ainsi la question des moyens de survie dans la bande de Gaza.
