Toyota's first acceleration-linked fatality case goes to trial Automotive News Opening statements are scheduled to start as early as today in California state court in Los Angeles, where about 85 personal-injury and wrongful-death acceleration...
Steven M. Sweat's insight:

The first case here in the Golden State related to Toyota acceleration claims starts trial here in Los Angeles.  Many of these claims were consolidated into federal court proceedings and Toyota settled those class action claims for over a billion dollars.  It will be interesting to see how this individual claim is resolved as a high jury award could affect Toyota's prospects of settling other such pending claims.

The California claim involves a person driving a Camry that accelerated into a tree and killed the driver.  The victim's family is suing for wrongful death.

Chris Brown 'Sneaks Into Jail To Turn Himself In' Over Car Accident Charges

Steven M. Sweat's insight:

As I commented upon in a prior post, it was almost inevitable that Chris Brown would be deemed in violation of the terms of his "summary probation" related to his convictions in the Rihanna domestic violence case.  Summary probation in California does not require reporting to a formal probation office but, it does usually require that you appear for status hearing on a regular basis and, more importantly for Chris, that you violate NO laws higher than an infraction.  I anticipate that Chris will be doing local jail time at the "twin towers" facility in downtown Los Angeles.  While this is not as tough an environment as the California State Prison system, it is still one of the toughest local jails in the U.S.

I noticed your earlier comments and I too thought that Chris Brown would break his probation. Rihana was too good for him and you just cant take the scum bag out of him. He would have been better off if he had been seeing a P/O. Perhaps he would not have gotten so loose. I bet he doesn't slap his lawyer's butt at his status hearing. Although a speeding ticketthis allegation is worse. I agree it is more likely than not that Chris will be sent to LA County Jail. And many people I know who have been there, say it is worse than state prison man! He may get butt raped.
