Off topic, but related to issues of cultural borrowing in general. I just saw a video of of James Fadiman where he argues that's very much the case now all around, things like yoga, meditation (also ayahausca?) borrowed by the West were also simplified, stripped of a lot of their meaning as they reached the mainstream. But now that they are mainstream a revival of interest in the original context is emerging https://youtu.be/mUsGnnz8dJE

Pareciera que esta etnia no fue descubierta hace más de 400 años. “Fue descubierta hace un par de años”, en una película de un gran valor artístico. El Abrazo de la Serpiente fue la encargada de mostrarles a todos los colombianos esta tribu por primera vez. No se descarta el valor profundo que trae consigo la película nominada a los premios de la academia, pero, como siempre ocurre en el país del sagrado corazón, juega más la emotividad y el deseo de ver ganar un premio o competencia a los compatriotas, que el valor implícito y el llamado de salvaguardia que emite un hecho. En este caso la cinta de Ciro Guerra.
