Our organisation has been set up to preserve, research and share the natural and cultural heritage of the people of Gabon, for the benefit of all humanity. We are dedicated to ensuring that that this is done fairly and sustainably, thereby protecting the rich resources of the Gabonese forest as well as promoting the traditional way of life of the Gabonese forest people.
In this way, Blessings Of The Forest offers its support to Gabonese indigenous communities and public bodies, ensuring that the Nagoya Protocol, which was ratified by the Republic of Gabon on the 21st November 2011, is strictly adhered to, ensuring access to inherited resources and a fair and equal share of the profits they bring, in accordance with the Convention on Biological Diversity.
From the Zapoteco communities in Mexico to the Aymaras in Bolivia this film looks at the struggles of four prominent Indigenous communities, with particular focus upon the Wayuu communities of Venezuela, giving a voice to the leaders of the indigenous people currently fighting against multinational corporations in order to stop the destruction of the natural resources so necessary to the survival of humankind.
Delfin Payaguaje & Luke Weiss are from the Secoya Nation in the Ecuadorian Amazon and came to the UK for a 10 day visit in late 2011. They travelled to Avebury and London in this time, giving talks about the Secoya way of life and intimate understanding of their natural surroundings. The talk given in Avebury concentrated on the ceremonial use of Ayahuasca (Yaje) as a way of accessing the spiritual realms. This video is the unedited raw footage of the talk.
This teaser is a snippet from the discussions held about rituality at the Sacred Plants in the Americas conference that was held on February 23, 24 and 25, 2018 in Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico. The conference had the purpose to build a bridge between indigenous and traditional psychoactive practices, psychedelic science and drug policy; through multidisciplinary and intercultural dialogue. In a context in which drug policy reforms are temporary, we consider it relevant to build spaces for discussion about psychoactive species and their growing multiplicity of uses. Moreover, it also seeks to give voice to the indigenous who have been knowledgeable about psychoactive plants since ancient times, and they will be providing lectures at the conference. Growing up with rites of passage and related practices woven into my life, I felt like I had all the tools I needed to navigate through any transition that life could throw my way. White Shamans and Plastic Medicine Men is a documentary dealing with the popularization and commercialization of Native American spiritual traditions by Non-Indians. Important questions are asked of those seeking to exploit ritual and sacred ceremony and of those vested with safeguarding sacred ways. This documentary is thematically organized, and deals with romantic stereotypes and copying, the impatience of new age practitioners contrasted to the fact that indigenous spiritual traditions are thousands of years old, and the proselytizing nature of these new age practitioners. The film represents a wide range of voices from several native communities, and speaks to issues of cultural appropriation with humor, righteous anger, and thoughtful insight.

A short documentary about the autonomous school in the indigenous communities of the Wayuu, in Sierra de Perija, Venezuela.
This film has been made by the communities which are part of the indigenous organisation, Maikiraalasalii.
The documentary highlights the importance of having an autonomous education and the challenges of taking this path in the search of their identity and defending the forests, rivers and the indigenous land against the exploitation of nature.
In the forests of the Sierra de Perija (Rio Socuy, Mache y Cachiri), on the borders between Colombia and Venezuela - an area rich in coal and other minerals – the indigenous Wayuu are among other original inhabitants who have been historically displaced and harassed by big landowners and multinational mining companies. Recently a number of Wayuu communities have come together, organising themselves for what they call “this last fight” to protect nature and their ancestral culture.
