What an amazing find.  A terrific verbal and pictoral essay on the Q'ero, the direct bloodline descendants of the Inka.  It's jam packed with facts and information about the peole, their community and way of life.

Answer (1 of 24): To quote Subhrajyoti Ghatak from What are the most gripping stories in human history? :

> This is a story, which will not be there in the pages of any important history book. This is a story too local for a globalized world.

“Kyle drank what he was given,” his father said, then found his way to a tent on a wooden platform on the center grounds. No one checked on him, and he was found dead the following day, Aug. 23, his father said.

After Kyle Nolan failed to return home on Aug. 26, his mother and sister made the first of two trips to Peru to find him. Sean Nolan said that Pineda “looked them right in the eye” and told them Kyle had seemed “despondent” and “just walked off with his suitcase.”

AYAHUASQUEROS (full version)

In their visions, ayahuasca shamans say they see the essences that animate living beings, the first property of which is to emit melodies. These essences are considered powerful beings, and ayahuasqueros learn their melodies by singing along. Singing like powerful beings, they learn to see like them, and this gives them knowledge. The melodies that shamans bring back from their visions are called "icaros"; they help navigate the space of ayahuasca consciousness, and can also serve as lifelines when overwhelmed by visions.

allAfrica.com: Ethiopia: An Ethiopian Herbal First-Aid Kit

While the universality of emergency situations, such as cuts, burns, and poisoning is obvious, the contents of a local herbal first-aid kit depend on the range of readily available indigenous plants and the prevailing emergent needs of the community in question at any given time. This article, therefore, attempts to provide a rundown of Ethiopian medicinal plants that can be used to make a typical herbal first-aid kit, along with their uses

Laughing at the Spirits in North Siberia: Is Animism Being Taken too Seriously? | e-flux

Laughing at the Spirits in North Siberia: Is Animism Being Taken too Seriously? | e-flux | Ayahuasca News | Scoop.it

We may ask whether the new animist studies are overstating the seriousness of the indigenous peoples’ own attitudes toward their spirited worlds. It is exactly here that we begin to glimpse the problem that motivates my writing this article. I am no longer convinced that seriousness as such lies at the heart of animism. Quite the contrary, it seems to me that underlying animistic cosmologies is a force of laughter, an ironic distance, a making fun of the spirits which suggests that indigenous animism is not to be taken very seriously at all.12 I think that we are facing a fundamental yet quite neglected problem here, and I will begin to explore it by drawing attention to a somewhat puzzling episode from my own fieldwork among the Yukaghirs, who are a small group of indigenous hunters living in northeastern Siberia....
