Roberto Alencar Zuazo is a native Aymara Elder, storyteller, artisan, activist, author and educator, from a tiny village in the Amazon Rainforest. He grew up in the traditional way with his family. His Grandfather was an Amauta, a Spiritual Healer, and his Father is a Native historian, Amazonian wisdom keeper, and River Pilot, expert in traditional environmental knowledge and the Amazon ecosystem. Roberto, at the age of eighteen, became a jungle guide and cultural interpreter for European scientific expeditions into the Amazon. As a result, he now speaks eight European languages and several Indigenous tongues. He has also taught Environmental knowledge, Amazonian lore, healing medicine and the use of herbs. Along with his sister Auxiliadora, a well-known activist and artist, he co-founded the first “Amazon Arts School” to revive aboriginal art and provide ongoing income for native artists. They taught traditional arts, woodcarving, pottery and mask making. Roberto has organized ethnographic exhibitions of Amazon traditional arts and workshops on Amazonian Spiritual Healing. Nearly two decades ago he came to Canada and was later granted Canadian citizenship. Presently, he is beginning the process of publishing seventeen traditional stories and accounts of his experiences growing up in a remote Amazon Jungle village.

"The psychedelics and their chemical cousins are making a comeback, launching what is being called a revolution in treating, and perhaps curing, some of the most refractory disorders of the human brain.
At the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, psilocybin – the active ingredient in magic mushrooms – is being used to reduce anxiety in end-stage cancer patients. At the University of Ottawa, a researcher is studying ketamine, which has put many a raver into the infamous “K-hole,” as an alternative to shock therapy for severely depressed patients.
In New Zealand, the hallucinogenic African shrub iboga has been reclassified as a promising treatment for opiate addiction, and in England, a tidal wave of research, much of it using up-to-the-minute brain-scanning techniques, is showing how once-reviled street drugs can be used to treat everything from obsessive-compulsive disorder to chain smoking.
The work exciting the most interest, however, involves something that has long been a conundrum for medical science: post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)"

Answer (1 of 27): First, a simple fact. World's total wealth (including all bank savings, stocks, homes, company treasuries. government funds, pension funds, mines and other natural resources) amounts to $200 trillion or about $25000 per person.

To be read with some skepticism, here is what Adam Milan who has had some personal expericence wrote "This article makes me want to write a long response against a lot of its claims. I don't know much but I was lucky enough to live with Chagdud Tulku for the last few years of his life and assist in the preparation and carrying out of several Abishekas as a ritual assistant or Chopon as they are called in Tibetan. The Vajrayana Dharma did not and does not need to rely on psychedelic substances in order to introduce one to the nature of reality, or empower students into deity practice. Note that I'm not saying these substances were not utilized in Vajrayana in the past for certain ends, (although after 15 years of involved practice and study I can say honestly that I don't know what those ends would have been) I'm simply saying that the enlightened Vajrayana masters still with us have no problem transmitting blessings and introducing one to the non-dual nature of mind and reality and deity without the use of substance and with nothing more then their own realization of non-dual mind, reality and deity. I'm not against psychedelics at all, I just see no reason in trying to find them where they are not needed or in implying that they are necessary to the living transmission of Vajrayana Buddhism. By the way, the high Tibetan teachers I've met are some of the most direct and forthright beings I've ever encountered. If one would like to know about the supposed role of psychedelics in the transmission of Vajrayana, one could simply ask them"
