It's been reported that Adrian Newey, Red Bull's chief technical officer, pegged for retirement at the end of this season, has signed up with rival team Aston Martin. And if that wasn't enough, it's now been reported by the Italian publication Autosprint that Max Verstappen could be following in his footsteps.

Originally known as Project Nebula and AM-RB 001, the Aston Martin Valkyrie was conceived back to when Red Bull Racing and Gaydon-based Aston Martin were joined at the hip. Masterminded by the one and only Adrian Newey, the V12-powered thriller will be joined by another Newey-designed hypercar in 2024.

Hallmark’s challenge is clear: elevate Aston Martin to the prestigious ranks of supercar manufacturers like Ferrari and McLaren, while pushing through significant price increases and shifting away from a strategy that relied on selling cheaper, high-volume models. He must do this without the backing of a global automotive powerhouse like Volkswagen, Bentley’s parent company, instead navigating the influence of Aston Martin’s dominant investor and executive chairman, Lawrence Stroll.

Aston Martin has raised £135m through a debt placing as it looks to shore up the balance sheet ahead of a production ramp-up later this year. The marque said it had raised around $90m (£70.7m) by issuing 10 per cent senior secured notes, and a further £65m through 10.4 per cent senior secured notes, due to mature in 2029. Net proceeds from the offering are expected to be used by Aston Martin to repay borrowings under its existing super senior revolving credit facility. The carmaker has struggled for years under a burgeoning debt pile since listing in 2018. Billionaire chair Lawrence Stroll has in the past looked to the firm’s backers, which include the Chinese carmaker Geely, for additional funds.

Alonso hasn’t been putting an effort to hide his frustration with Aston Martin’s development place for their 2024 Formula 1 car, the AMR24, especially after a recent upgrade introduced in Barcelona back fired and made the car worse. After the Spanish Grand Prix, the double F1 Champion called on his team to talk less and work more, and while he had a slightly better weekend in Silverstone where Aston Martin scored points with both cars, he was still skeptical about his team’s upgrade plan.

This point, I feel, needs making from the outset. There is only one car in the history of the, er, car to mate a turbo V12 engine to a manual gearbox. And you’re looking at it. Or one of them, for there will be just 110, making the Aston Martin Valour so rare that you’re more likely to see a rocking horse manuring an adjacent field than chance across one on the road.

More than 2,500 eligible Aston Martin employees and contractors across the UK will benefit from this new deal, which includes a 4% annual pay increase for general staff in 2024 and 2025. Manufacturing technicians will receive an additional 1.5% pay rise in 2025 and a reduction in their working week by one hour, starting in 2025.

Despite previously having vowed to offer an entirely electric lineup by 2030, Aston Martin has decided to continue selling internal-combustion vehicles beyond the next decade. Company chairman Lawrence Stroll now believes that there will always be demand for combustion engines. Apparently, customers had conveyed to Aston dealers that they still prefer traditional powertrains and want the sensations associated with gasoline-powered automobiles.
