Aston Martin releases the Valkyrie LM, a hypercar inspired by the road-legal version of the Valkyrie, in July 2016. Back then a non-working model, the LM variant is for the racing fans who want to own the vehicle and drive it on tracks. The current model is not road-legal and can’t also be used for official racing since the car manufacturer has designed it for private use only. Because of this, the Aston Martin Valkyrie LM doesn’t have the ballast, or the extra weight used to balance the car during races, and specific electronics installed to comply with the racing rules.

Every Grand Prix has demonstrated a troubling trend for Aston Martin: the AMR25, driven by Alonso and Stroll, is not only failing to improve on its predecessors but is often performing significantly worse. Despite the management's ambitious strategy focusing on the 2026 World Championship, the current season has been marked by ongoing difficulties, leaving fans and analysts alike questioning the team's trajectory.

There are fewer mass-production cars with a V12 on sale today than the wonderful engine layout has pistons. Tightening emissions and fuel economy standards along with parts and design sharing to reduce costs has meant the V12 engine's days have been numbered.

In the early 2010s, there were reports about Aston Martin giving the Toyota iQ-based Cygnet the electric treatment. That never happened. In 2019, the production-ready Rapide E broke cover, but that one, too, failed to see the light of day. Plans for a Lagonda sub-brand that was supposed to sell only electric cars were also scrapped. Notice a trend? Fast-forward to 2025, and the Gaydon brand is still reluctant to launch an EV.

The new and much improved 2025 Aston Martin Vantage was revealed back in February of this year, and now it's time for the first of several inevitable special editions. The new Aston Martin Vantage AMV24 Edition has been created to celebrate the victory earned by the Vantage GT3 at the Spa-Francorchamps race earlier this year, and only 24 examples will be made. But the rarity factor is arguably not even the coolest detail here, as each customer gets the opportunity to drive the iconic Belgian circuit on the weekend of next year's 24 Hours of Spa race. Since this is a celebration of a motorsport achievement, each car will be finished in a theme that calls to mind Aston Martin racing liveries.

The supply chain disruptions have notably impacted the production of four recently upgraded models. This has resulted in the Warwickshire-based company missing its yearly targets. Aston Martin has announced it will reduce its 2024 production volume to 6,000 cars, down from the previous guidance of 7,000. The decision was influenced by supplier disruptions and China’s economic climate. The company hopes to stabilise production in future quarters, although it anticipates it will not be cash flow positive in the second half of 2024.

The esteemed British brand has lost the once only reliable thing about their cars; that they were beautiful. For most of my childhood, I wanted to be a car designer, and the brand I sketched the most was Aston Martin. It was not the Bond association though. With Aston, you could look to almost any time in their heritage and find the same signatures but interpreted in fresh new ways. They all had that long, flowing hood, a curved, bubble-like glass-house, and a tight, muscular rear; and whether you were thinking about the classic DB5, Callum’s DB9, or my personal favorite, the 1990s Vantage, they all were masculine, elegant, and powerful. That is, until the 2010s, where Aston hit a bit of a rough spot. Ian Callum had so perfectly nailed the turn-of-the-century Aston Martin look with the DB7 and DB9, that everything else just had to riff off that look. The Vanquish, DBS, 2005 Vantage, One-77, and four-door Rapide were all just variants on that design language, and though they all were beautiful, the look was getting a bit tired, and each face-lift, attempting to modernize them, simultaneously made the look less pure whilst also making it obvious how old-hat it was.

The Formula 1 team now known as Aston Martin has changed hands a number of times since the late 2000s, but one thing has remained consistent throughout, its powertrain supplier. Mercedes has provided engines to the Silverstone-based team for 15 years — sustaining the partnership through three different rebrands — making it a strong ally for the end of the V8 engine era of 2006-2013 and the turbo-hybrid era of 2014-present. While the bond between Mercedes and Aston Martin has always been solid, the new engine regulations set to be introduced for the 2026 Formula 1 season have inspired Aston Martin to look at other powertrain partners.

The FTSE 250 supercar maker has struggled to whittle down a large debt pile since it IPO’d in 2018, despite renewed investment from prominent backers, including the Chinese car giant Geely and the Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll. Production issues repeatedly seem to emerge at critical moments. Last November, problems emerged during the hotly-anticipated roll out of its new DB12 model, weighing on shares for the rest of the year. Monday’s profit morning means both wholesale production volumes and adjusted earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) will come in below market expectations this year.

If ever there were an automotive brand to be associated with the concept of "posh," it would be Aston Martin. Originally founded out of a small workshop in London in 1913, the brand has become synonymous with the very best (and most expensive) that British automotive engineering has to offer. Aston Martin is the brand that created the first car utilized by James Bond; that's how you know this is a manufacturer that knows a couple of things about style.
