Surprised at how many Australians go to Laos each year.  Up to 30,00 tourists a year and most of them are there for the drugs.  It was iteresting to hear about how some of the food they serve in restaurants over there are made with marijuana in it.  I think the biggest thing in this article is about the tubes that float down the river with the drugs right on it.  i also find it interesting that this only mentioned all the Australian tourists.  It makes me wonder how many people from other countries travel there each year for the same reason.

Backpacker party town Vang Vieng features in my novel Back, when the modern-day trekkers spend some time there before heading into the jungle. I like the place personally but it's still a culture shock coming upon it in the wilds of Laos.
