If ChatGPT and LLM technologies have demonstrated anything over the last weeks, it is that the human skills that differentiate us from a machine need to be nurtured and developed and we need to work together to develop our education and assessment systems to reflect this.

With the advent of artificial intelligence (AI), the skills and capabilities needed to thrive in the workforce are rapidly changing, writes UNSW Business School's Frederik Anseel At this point, no one can really be sure how radical AI will change work and careers. But the first experience of people being exposed to ChatGPT, Bing or Midjourney is a feeling of awe. The possibilities seem endless, and you can’t help but feel dazzled by the prospect of the AI tsunami that is coming. There does not seem one domain of work that will come out unscathed. Instead of crystal-balling over which jobs will disappear and which ones will thrive, it is probably more interesting to look at its likely impact on talent and skills.

A little bit of magic, but mostly just practice
Large Language Models work by predicting the next word, or part of a word, that would come after your prompt, sort of like a sophisticated autocomplete function. Then they continue to add language from there, again predicting which word will come next. So the default output of many of these models can sound very generic, since they tend to follow similar patterns that are common in the written documents that the AI was trained on. By breaking the pattern, you can get much more useful and interesting outputs. The easiest way to do that is to provide context and constraints.
