According to a scientific report, from Russia's Ministry of Health, Russian scientists claim they have discovered a critical link between the H1N1 influenza (Swine Flu) virus and genetically modified (GM) amylopectin potatoes consumed in massive quantities – nearly exclusively by Westerners – sold in fast food restaurants as French Fries.
The World Health Organization (WHO) also supports these findings.
The Obama administration has indicated a shift in US development policy from "food aid" (dumping our excess production overseas) with "food security" (improving food production in foreign countries). This would be great for world’s family farmers if Obama’s plan were to ensure their access to clean water, arable land and diverse, locally adapted plants and animals. Unfortunately, President Obama seems set on replacing the bags of wheat, rice and corn with bags of pesticides, fertilizers and genetically engineered seeds. http://foodfreedom.wordpress.com/2010/07/11/dupont-monsanto-and-obama-versus-the-worlds-family-farmers/
Havana, Jan 8 (Prensa Latina) Urban agriculture in Cuba produced 1,052,000 tons of vegetables in 2011, 105 percent of the plan, which represented about two thousand tons more, an official source told the press.
Much of the pollution in U.S. rivers and streams today comes from the manure generated by CAFOs (concentrated animal feeding operations), which confine thousands of animals on a single site. To determine the extent of the problem and how it might be better addressed, the public and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) need to know more about these facilities and the waste they produce. But unlike many other industries, #CAFOs do not regularly disclose facility-specific information to the EPA—and the powerful interests behind CAFOs want to keep it that way.
It is being dubbed the second scramble for Africa: millions of acres of land are being snapped up by companies from Asia and the Middle East, our foreign Affairs Correspondent Jonathan Rugman reports.
A coalition of 300 companies, organizations and doctors has filed a petition with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) fto require that all genetically engineered foods be labeled, and to protect consumer’s right to know what is in the food they are eating.
Nations like France, which have moved to ban one of Monsanto’s GM corn varieties, were requested to be ‘penalized’ by the United States for opposing Monsanto and genetically modified foods.
The information reveals just how deep Monsanto’s roots have penetrated key positions within the United States government, with the cables reporting that many U.S. diplomats work directly for Monsanto.

South Africa's Competition Tribunal denies merger to create seed duopoly.
The tribunal last week for the first time set out its reasons for prohibiting the transaction to merge Pioneer-Pannar stating that it would have led to a permanent change to the market structure by reducing the number of major competitors in the maize seed market from three to two.
The transaction would have resulted in a duopoly, with the three largest players, Monsanto, Pioneer-Pannar, being reduced to two players.
The three together hold 95% of SA’s national hybrid maize seed market.
Industry and EU regulators knew as long ago as the 1980s-1990s that Monsanto's Roundup, the world's best selling herbicide, causes birth defects – but they failed to inform the public. This is the conclusion of a new report, "Roundup and birth defects: Is the public being kept in the dark?" co-authored by a group of international scientists and researchers and released today.[1]

Only 20% of the antibiotics sold in the U.S. are given to people who are sick with bacterial infections, such as ear and urinary tract infections and pneumonia .
"Golden rice is a Trojan horse for pushing through GE-friendly biosafety regulations under the guise of humanitarian aid," reports Food Freedom. "Once in place, these regulations open the door for the biotech industry to bring in commercial, patented GE crops; USAID and Monsantoaccomplished exactly this in Kenya with their sweet potato project."
Thanks to the Occupy Wall Street movement, there's a deeper understanding about the power that corporations wield over the great majority of us. It's not just in the financial sector, but in all facets of our lives.
Sounds good, until you dig deeper and you find the biotech, genetic engineering pr machine and fraternity is on a roll:
