A billionaire energy tycoon is driving the push for Big Oil executives to fund former President Donald Trump's campaign, expecting a windfall in more favorable regulation in return, The Washington Post reported on Tuesday.

The oil and natural gas industry has a clear favorite in the 2020 presidential election: Republican Donald Trump. Donations from workers and company executives overwhelmingly favor the president.

"Hosting a fundraiser with Big Oil CEOs while we're still counting the bodies from Hurricane Helene is like hosting a fundraiser with the NRA in the midst of a school shooting," said climate campaigner Jamie Henn.

Washington, DC — This week, Donald Trump announced his intent to move forward with controversial plans to open Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas drilling.  

That the Interior Department has now blessed oil and gas drilling in the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge comes as no surprise. It was a foregone conclusion once Lisa Murkowski, in 2017, persuaded her Senate colleagues to authorize drilling in the refuge as part of a tax bill, ending protections that have been in place since the Eisenhower administration.
