How to Create Awesome Infographics Without Being a Designer

How to Create Awesome Infographics Without Being a Designer | 21st Century Tools for Teaching-People and Learners | Scoop.it

If you’re anything like me, you learned how to use programs like Photoshop and Gimp out of necessity to do minor changes to photos. You might have even dabbled in some easier graphic design projects for your own website, but it takes you hours to get the image or the design looking just right and you’re left exhausted. You might even spend time looking up tutorials on how to achieve a certain effect and still have trouble re-creating it.

In short, while you do know your way around the programs like Photoshop to a certain extent, it takes you forever and there’s absolutely no way you’d call yourself a graphic designer. But then, you’re surfing around the web and you noticed some really cool infographics on things like fashion, music and food and you can’t help but wish that you could create something like that; even if it’d take you a week....

46 Tools To Make Infographics In The Classroom

46 Tools To Make Infographics In The Classroom | 21st Century Tools for Teaching-People and Learners | Scoop.it

Infographics are interesting–a mash of (hopefully) easily-consumed visuals (so, symbols, shapes, and images) and added relevant character-based data (so, numbers, words, and brief sentences).

The learning application for them is clear, with many academic standards–including the Common Core standards–requiring teachers to use a variety of media forms, charts, and other data for both information reading as well as general fluency...

Las infografías son una herramienta muy útil por su factor visual: en poco espacio y de forma visulamente agradable y atrayente, engloba datos y relaciona conceptos.

Infographics seem to be a real trend today, with new ones popping up daily on all sorts of subjects. From mortgages to ice cream, estimating software to infographics about infographics, there is very little now that hasn't been 'visualised' in some form. Many people don't realise that the term information graphic, or 'infographic' was first coined over 100 years ago, with the Coxcomb chart by Florence Nightingale in 1857 being one of earliest recognised examples. They have existed in many forms since then, but only in the past few years have infographics developed into the art form we know today.

Make Your Podcast Sticky [Infographic]

Make Your Podcast Sticky [Infographic] | 21st Century Tools for Teaching-People and Learners | Scoop.it

There are six principles of sticky ideas according to Dan and Chip Heath, authors of Made to Stick. Sticky ideas are ones that we can plainly understand, clearly remember, and easily retell. When teachers and students make educational podcasts, whether audio or video, we want them to be sticky.

I created the infographic below that that applies the principles outlined in Made To Stick to podcasting for teaching and learning. You can click the image for a PDF version of the infographic.

How To Decide Which Social Network You Should Use

How To Decide Which Social Network You Should Use | 21st Century Tools for Teaching-People and Learners | Scoop.it

You don’t have time to monitor Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Orkut, LinkedIn, wait, Orkut? Exactly. There are literally kabillions of social networks out there just screaming to get you in as a user. Sure, Twitter and Facebook are the big ones that you’ve already joined. But are they right for you? What about LinkedIn? Or the upstart (and newly redesigned) Google+?

The following infographic from business consultant Zintro does a decent job summarizing the numbers, pros and cons, and what makes each network different. While it is not exhaustive (where’s Pinterest?!), it’s helpful.

The History Of Learning Tools [Infographic]

The History Of Learning Tools [Infographic] | 21st Century Tools for Teaching-People and Learners | Scoop.it

You’re going to want to print out this infographic and, at the very least, share it with your fellow teachers and even students. It’s all about the history of education technology and could be used to educate just about anyone on how far we’ve come in a short period of time. We did a more in-depth look at the history of education technology about a year ago but this infographic is a lot more… fun.

Anyway, the below infographic from CTU can be viewed below or downloaded as a PDF here (so you can fire up that color printer). Enjoy the walk down memory lane!
